I lived adjacent to Oakland City Park growing up. We thought it was our personal Country Club and it was. We swam everyday in the summer, played on the playground, ball fields, tennis courts - had fish frys in the big pavillion, birthday parties in the small pavillions and my brothers went to Scouts there. We stayed outside playing with our friends until dark even when it was very cold or hot! Our classes at IN Ragsdale were big - sometimes more than 30 kids to one teacher - and yet there was respect and only the occasional fight or argument. The teacher's word was law and if you didn't believe it you could ask the principal! Parents backed teachers up, helped with homework and took part in paper drives, womanless weddings, talent shows etc. It was a great time to be a kid!
