I have read so many wonderful profiles on the Class of '60 of where they went and what they did with their life during and after graduating. I felt I left a lot of my wonderful friendship stories out and wanted to share a few of them, so here I am editing my profile. After graduating, Elsie Sere and I decided we didn't really want to go to College so we thought about what to do and we thought being a telephone operator would be fun. We went down to the office in Redwood City and applied and got this prestigious job after so many applicants didn't qualify. We had to train for 6 weeks and we were on a split shift job, meaning we worked 8-12 then came back and worked 4-6 each day....so much for the prestigious part!! Anyway, we had so much fun there. We had the headset and laughed so much that the supervisor had to put us on different ends of the board where the calls came in. We were to say "hello operator" and then we would laugh, anyway, we didn't last long and I quit after 2 months. I decided that getting married sounded more fun........so I married Dave Newman (Carlmont Class of '59) a few months later in September of 1960.****** I then found a job down at Philco in Palo Alto where Sharon Grijalva was working and I stayed at that job for a couple of years until I was pregnant with my first son. After he was born I stayed home and raised my first and second son until they started school and then took a job in San Mateo working part time for the next 30 years. Great job as an office manager for a Rep Company. Dave retired at 52 and we bought a second home in Lake Tahoe and were able to enjoy the next 15 years using it one week every month as I then went on a 2 week on-2 week off schedule with the same company. During the Tahoe trips Marcia Bettencourt who lived at Tahoe also, came over and we had lots of good times together. In 2002, 2003 and 2004 I was priviledged to have a lot of the Carlmont girls come up and stay for a few days at Tahoe during the summer. Those 3 years were so much fun as there were as many as 15 that came and we went each year to some different place at Tahoe, rafting down the Truckee River, hiking over at Squaw Valley and sailing out on the Catamaran at Incline Village. Fun times with good friends that you had so much in common with.

In 2005 Dave and I sold the Tahoe Home and our home in San Carlos to move to Rocklin. Sadly, Dave passed away this last summer in September.******So what sounded like fun in 1960 turned out to be a long time relationship that lasted 49 years until his death. Our family and friends our heartbroken and miss this Harley Guy more than anyone could ever imagine.

The friends I had growing up in San Carlos from 4th grade to Carlmont I am still very close to. The majority of us see and talk to each other at least once a week. We vacation together, eat together and drink together. The bond we had then and still have I will be forever grateful for. It just doesn't get any better than to have friends like the ones we knew back then and still do.

One of my favorite stories was working at the Carlos Theater on San Carlos Avenue with Marcia Bettencourt and Elsie Sere. Elsie and I worked the candy counter and Marcia was the ticket booth cashier. We had so many laughs 50 years ago and are still laughing about working there. It was so fun!!
