Douglas Kuehn

After Stanford undergrad, left the US for the UK and grad school where I eventually got an MA and Ph.D. From then on it was teaching, first at the University of Stirling, then UMass, Amherst, with a break to renovate an 18th century cottage in northern France. I returned to teaching in London at Dulwich college and spent 15 years there until retirement (at 60, which was the rule at the time). Following retirement, Valerie and I migrated to Spain (where she had a small 15th century house) and we now garden, and I have undertaken various construction projects, including digging a cave, for what else, WINE! Since 2018, I've graduated into becoming a published author of historical fiction and have completed the trilogy, The Addlestone Chronicles, set in 1930's Europe documenting the rise of fascism with my mind on the parallels with the rise in MAGA rhetoric.

My memory of Carlmont focus on some great teachers (John Durham for English, Phil Arnot for History, Russell Reed for band and Glen Kovas for swimming and water polo). Also some great friends that we hung out with (Jim Roumasset, Jay Watson, Dave Brodhead) who were mostly swimmers but also Karl Beckle who shared my interest and love for anything mechanical, esp old cars.
