Stories & Voices from 1969

Hey!  You Can Do This!  Have Courage and Share a Story!

Surely you've got something ridiculous, unusual, tragic, romantic or profoundly moving that you can recall about your time at Beloit.  It could be a class or your field term; a professor, staff member or fellow student who sticks in your mind. Maybe it just makes you laugh to think about it. Or it prompted a lifetime of reflection; appreciation or admiration. Don’t worry about whether you are as good as Mark Twain. You will not receive a grade!

You can share your story two ways:

1. Write it and share it here on the website. Post it in the Discussion Threads, as part of a classmate’s memorial or your own profile

2. Prepare and practice it so you can tell it aloud.

Have you ever listened to The Moth on public radio or a podcast?  We’d like to try something like it at the reunion.  You could tell a short (3-10 minute) anecdote or a more structured story. The rules are simple: your story should be true (more or less) and you need to tell it without notes. To stretch us a little, you could recite original poetry or even sing your story.

Beyond that, it’s up to you. So we ask you to do these things

  • Sign up. Contact Rick Brooks at rbrooksster@gmail.com We hope to include a few longer stories and many shorter ones.
  • Do a little preparation so your story is vivid and concise.
  • Recruit a fellow classmate or two to perform.
