School Story

After getting a law degree I went to work on Wall Street for twelve years for Drexel Burnham Lambert, ultimately starting my own boutique firm in Portland, Oregon. After 38 years in investment banking, I returned to my first love, writing, and just completed my first novel "Alley Pond Park" that will be published in 1Q'24 by Shepherdess Books. Of note to Beloiters, two-thirds of the novel is set at Beloit College in the early Seventies, the balance on Wall Street. I have a treasure trove of stories, some even based loosely on fact, but I'm afraid you'll have to await my novel to find out more. :)

Are you planning on coming to Beloiter Days: Homecoming and Reunion Weekend, September 29 - October 1, 2023?

Unfortunately I could not attend the 50th as Wendy and I were in Iceland for a month, but hope to be available for many reunions in the future!

Seeing the photos for the graduating class of '24 brought back memories of our own rather unique graduation in April '73, the great flood.https://downtownbeloit.com/us/2023/04/stateline-area-residents-recall-flood-from-50-years-ago/#:~:text=The%20flood%20that%20struck%20Beloit,by%20the%20Easter%20weekend%20flood.
My parents moved into the tiny, mouse-ridden attic flat I shared with my then girlfriend, Wendy, while we slept on a friend's floor in another apartment. I memorialized our graduation experience in my new novel, ALLEY POND PARK. Although fictionalized, it will bring it all back to you. Check out my website, zakgordonauthor.com for more information.

We had a Beloit College Alumni meetup in Portland, OR on Saturday April 20th. Hosts Cameron Dieter ('16) and Jim Long ('72) generously allowed to do a reading of college-related scenes from my new novel, ALLEY POND PARK. I would like to thank everyone who purchased a book, the proceeds of which will go to Beloit College.

Check it out, and please note all proceeds from sale of my novel, which largely takes place at Beloit College circa 1969-1973, will be donated to the college. In addition so the write up in the magazine, more information about the novel is available at zakgordonauthor.com
