Kathleen M. Waken

Kathleen M. “Kate” Waken (nee Mehozonek), 49, of North Olmsted, died July 16 at Lutheran Home, Westlake.

Born in Berea, she was a registered nurse at Lutheran Home.

Survivors include her husband, Daniel; sons, James (Kara), Anthony, Benjamin and Andrew; one grandchild; brothers, Chuck and Paul and sister, Laura Noar; in-laws, Irma and Joseph Waken. Services were conducted at Ascension Lutheran Church, North Olmsted.

Pastor Roger Stuenkel officiated. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home, 2116 Dover Center Road, Westlake, OH 44145.

Arrangements were made by Chambers Funeral Home, North Olmsted.

Thanks to Kathy Mehozonek's sister Laura Noar for calling with this information.

Kate (as she was known) passed away on July 16th from lung cancer. 
She was diagnosed in December.

She married BHS 1978 classmate Dan Waken. 
They had 4 children, all boys.  1 grandchild.

Eldest son is in the Army and deployed in Iraq.

Kate was a nurse and worked in a nursing home in Westlake.  
That's where she spent her last days, with her family and in the care of those who cared about her.
