Bob Riter was killed November 21, 1979, when he was hit by two cars while walking on Riverside Drive in Brook Park. Bob was 19 years old.

Pedestrian hit by 2 cars, killed
Brook Park police are investigating the death yesterday of a Berea man, 20, who was struck by two cars while walking on Riverside Dr.
Police said Robert Riter, of 363 Lombardy Dr., was walking south near Kolthoff Dr. when he was struck at 12:09 a.m. by two southbound cars. The drivers, a Brook Park woman, 39, and a Brook Park man, 31, told police they were unable to see Riter.

I grow up with Bob in the same neighborhood, went to the same elementary school and knew his family. I hear that he died shortly after high school graduation. Sorry that his life ended so soon.Gretchen White
Bob and I played clarinet together throughout Roehm and Berea High. He constantly talked during class. Bob got my ass booted out of 8th grade band with Mr. Cool by loudly saying the word "asshole" to me at the exact time Mr. Cool directed the band to stop. He thought it was quite funny. He was my friend and helped me out by leaving his clarinet for me when he graduated early. (Mine had a marching band accident with a curb.) I will always smile when I think of Bob... he was always talking and others would probably swear to God that the guy never said a word... I guess it all depended on where you sat!!!Rest In Peace Bob. I was sad to hear that Bob passed away so young. I didn't know that until I joined this site.
I remember being in Mr. Cornelius' Biology class with Bob in 10th grade. Mr. Cornelius had asked the class a question and someone had a partial answer to it. Bob came up with a more complete answer to the question.
Mr. Cornelius said "She's right, but you're Riter". A play on words.
Rest in peace, Bob.

I knew Rob from elementary school (Parknoll) from very early on through high school in band. He had a very interesting way of walking and was always swinging his head to the right to get his bangs out of his eyes. I didn't know that he was a big talker, though he was always nice when he said "hi" to me--which was often. It's so sad to hear that he died at such a young age. Does anyone know how that happened?
