In Memory

Kennie Evig

As a member of Billings Pentecostals, Ken Evig went home to be with Jesus, having passed away at home June 18, 2009.

Ken was born July 15, 1945. He is survived by a sister, Phyllis Ruth Evig; a brother, John Leonard Evig; two nephews, Ross and Darren Evig; two great-nieces and two great-nephews.

He is a 1967 Billings Senior High graduate. After school, he went and graduated from the Apostolic Bible Institute in St. Paul, Minn. Ken enjoyed sports, but the most important element in his life was church; it was his life.

During his last few weeks with us, his time was spent reading his Bible and singing church chorus and songs from his Lazyboy chair and in bed. He truly is in a better place. We will miss you!

Went through Grade School, Jr. High and High School with Ken but never really got to "know him".. I have always thought about what he and his sister Ruth had to endure when she would pick him up from school. The teasing and taunting for looking and being different.  I should have said and did more but didn"t and now feel guilty for not doing so..  Just expressing my thoughts....

Steve said it well and I felt the same way. I went to school with Kennie from 7th to 12th grade. I then became neighbors with him after building a duplex across the alley from his childhood home in 1997. Kennie was a very nice and gentle man. His devotion to his family and sister Ruth was utterly strong. I didn't realize until reading his obituary that he was such a strong Christian man. Kennie got teased a lot because he chose his own way, never tried to fit in, or impress anyone. I can see why the teasing and ridicule didn't get him down and he always held his head up. He had strong faith. I'm sure he is in heaven and a much better place. My condolensces to his friends and family.

Like Steve and John I knew Ken, I found him to be a kind and gentle person.  I would sit with him at lunch so he would not have to eat alone. There’s no doubt in my mind that there was a special space in heaven for him,

Most mornings Kenny and I would sit by one of the windows near the gym before class and just visit.  He was a gentle soul.  I would run into him over the years and visit with him.  As his health went down hill he still remained that gentle soul.
