To the former faculty of Roosevelt Jr. High School and Wenonah Senior High School thank you for preparing me for my life’s journey. To my classmates, I also say thank you for the memories and the indelible impression you left on my life.
After completing high school I worked for U.S.
Steel in Birmingham. Never one to take orders well, I moved to Washington, D.C. and then back to Alabama. After becoming humble and a man, I returned to Washington, D.C., met Marie B. Short, whom I married in 1964 and later we became the parents of Kimberly Marie. My career as a HVAC intern engineer began at Cafritz Hospital through the International Union of Operating Engineers. I obtained my D.C. Engineers License. Later I was employed by Sheraton Park Hotel, Georgetown University Hospital and Robert F. Kennedy Stadium as Stadium Superintendent. At RFK I coordinated all of the Washington Redskins Football games in connection with the major TV networks and ESPN. I also worked with concert promoters to coordinate all major concert tours such as Michael Jackson, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and others. After 14 years I resigned as Acting Stadium Manager to start my own businesses under O’Neal Enterprises, Inc. which included Skip’s Beer and Wine & Cheese Shop, Skips Liquors and Laundromat, and Skip’s House of Hair Solutions(2 buildings). After 25 years as an entrepreneur I am now enjoying a life of leisure.
