Thank you to Barb and your committee, Allan Mapel, Patti Daubs and Lynda Cox for your contributions to the class reunion, as well.  It was a grand evening.

A couple of pictures I found interesting, the first one is the Fire Station when it was located on Front Street.

The next one is Sandy's.  I thought they had the best, cheapest French Fries in Bloomington, I think they were 15 cents for an order.

Wasn't Sandys built there on Emmerson and Towanda in anticipation of the new BHS going in across the street? The closwd lunch hour broks that down.

Thanks, Barb, for the picture of the fire station on Front Street. It brings back memories of going to rifle shooting classes in the basement of the fire station over 65 years ago.

I want to express my gratitude to all your work and that of others who made the 60th class reunion possible. I had a great time and really appreciate the opportunity to reconnect.

WE ARE A GENERATION THAT WILL NEVER COME BACK. A generation that walked to school and then walked back. A generation that did their homework alone to get out asap to play in the street. A generation that spent all their free time in the streets with their Friends. A generation that played hide and seek when dark. A generation that made mud cakes. A generation that collected sports cards. A generation that found, collected, washed & returned empty coke bottles to the local grocery store for 5 cents each, then bought a Mountain Dew and candy bar with the money. A generation that made paper toys with their bare hands. A generation who bought vinyl albums to play on record players. A generation that collected photos and albums of clippings of their life experiences as a Kid. A generation that played board games and cards on rainy days. A generation whose TV went off at midnight after playing the National Anthem. A generation that had parents who were there. A generation that laughed under the covers in bed so parents didn't know we were still awake. A generation that is passing and unfortunately it will never return no matter how hard we try. I loved Growing up when I did. it was the best of times.

Barb,

Amen to everything you wrote about growing up at that time and also I would say in that place-(Bloomington).   We had ultimate freedom as kids too ride our bikes or walk anywhere without fear.  It was great!  But as I recall we only got 2 cents for each glass bottle returned?  You must have known where to return yours!👍. Thanks for the great photos you keep finding and posting. 👏 Best,  Cork & Patty

Well Class, we are finally back in New Braunfels, Tx.  We stopped in Branson Mo. for some shows and a couple of other locations on our way home.   I want to thank Barbara and the entire committee for the great job of organizing the 60th Reunion.  Also, thanks to Linda Guy Cox for the Coursages and Boutonnieres.  I saved Ours.  The food was great and so was the conversation with all my classmates.  A special thanks for Larry Shoup for stepping in for the invocation.  A coujple of hours in the evening was not enough time to speak to everyone as much as you would have liked to.

Thanks to all who have posted pictures on the web site and identified each by name.  It was a Honor and Priviledge to serve as your MC.  I will take a look and see if there are any pics I took that I might add.  I will also post this pic of my wife, Marion Elizabeth, Married 57 years, at the Reunion.

A couple of well known places in Bloomington, the first being Franklin Park and I have no idea who the lady is.

The next picture is of Lakeside Country, when you were able to swim in the lake.

Today was the Memorial Service for Brian and Jeannie  Shaffer Olofson   which Janice Scott Vitton attended.  These are pictures their daughters handed out and Janice graciously sent it to me so everyone could see it.

Concerning the Lakeside Country Club picture:

When we went swimming 🏊‍♀️ at Lakeside, we were really swimming with the fish.🐟 There were two diving boards, a low one and a high one. I never dove off the high board, but remember jumping off into the lake. When the lake froze over, we went ice skating. We attended several dances there. Good times, fun memories.

This picture was posted on Facebook  this morning and it brought back so many memories for me, it's the inside of Livingstons first floor. You ladies remember going in there to get your angora sweaters with a skirt to match, the Bobbie Brooks and Ship n Shore clothing and most of all the Capezio Shoes.  Those were the days!

Note:  After writing this I got to thinking when I went to bed last night was there a Ship n Shore brand or am I all wrong.  If somebody knows please let me know.

Remember window shopping at all of the downtown stores, this is a window display Roland's had.

10/30/22 07:37 AM #3114

Mary Ann Wilson (Eiff)

Yes, there was definitely a Ship 'n Shore brand.  I still have a couple Ship 'n Shore vests hanging in my closet, and once in a while, I still wear them.

The Rolands windows were decorated by Gary Eiff's Grandfather, John Eiff, until he was 88 years old and fell on the ice going to work and broke his hip and never recovered.
