Here's a picture looking East on Washington Street, you can see State Farm towering in the background.  It was a busy time and now most of the buildings have been torn down or replaced.

A picture of the Depot in Bloomington which is no more, love the bridge.

With the below zero temperatures we've had all day I couldn't resist putting this on here!

A little long but worth the read.

A young lady confidently walked around the room with a raised glass of water while leading a seminar and explaining stress management to her audience.  Everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, 'Half empty or half full?'  She fooled them all.

"How heavy is this glass of water?" she inquired with a smile.   Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz. She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter.  It depends on how long I hold it.  I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance.  In each case it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.

She continued, and that's the way it is with stress.  If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on.  As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again.  When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced.

So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down.

Don't carry them through the evening and into the night.

Pick them up again tomorrow if you must.

1.  Accept the fact that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue!

2.  Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

3.  Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.

4.  Drive carefully... It's not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.

5.  If you can't be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.

6.  If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

7.  It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

8.  Never buy a car you can't push.

9.  Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won't have a leg to stand on.

10.  Nobody cares if you can't dance well.  Just get up and dance.

11.  Since it's the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.

12.  The second mouse gets the cheese.

13.  When everything's coming your way, you're in the wrong lane.

14.  Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

16.  Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.

17.  We could learn a lot from crayons.  Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull.  Some have       weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

18.  A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

19.  Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

20. Save the earth..... It's the only planet with chocolate!

Be the kind of person that when your feet hit the floor each morning the devil says, "Oh Crap, they're up!

Hi Classmates, we would like, a group has been talking, to honor the class of l962 by donating a plaque, tree, bench, etc. to BHS.
Our class was special: 1. The first class to graduate 🎓 after all three years in the new building. 2. Our sports teams. Big 12, won the conference titles in baseball, ⚾ basketball, 🏀 and football, 🏈 our senior year. 3. The mid-century architecture of that time was on the cutting edge and was reflected in the gym building.
We have been in contact with the principal of BHS and he is open to the idea to honor our class. We just need to give him ideas, so we are asking you for any ideas/suggestions on how to do this. Stay well and warm.❄️🥶

Janice (Scott) Vitton, Patti (Perry) Daubs, and others.

Please respond by February 15, 2024.❤️

Didn't some group  plant a memorial or remembrance tree  in the front yeard Right after the building was finished? I bellieve somebody cut it down. Of course I could be wrong but maybe something sturdier.

🤙42 lessons life taught me 💖
It is something we should all read at least once a week! Make sure you read to the end!
Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio.
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 42 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short – enjoy it..
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. Save for retirement starting with your first pay check.
9. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
10. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
11. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
12. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
13. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it...
14 Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
15. Get rid of anything that isn't useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.
16. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
17. It's never too late to be happy. But it’s all up to you and no one else.
18. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
19. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
20. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
21. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.💖
22. The most important sex organ is the brain.
23. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
24. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
25. Always choose life.
26. Forgive but don’t forget.
27. What other people think of you is none of your business.
28. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
30. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does..
31. Believe in miracles.
32. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
33. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
34. Your children get only one childhood.
35. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
36. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. (I love this one)
37. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
38. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have not what you need.
39. The best is yet to come...
40. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
41. Yield.
42. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

Remember when the first McDonalds opened in Normal, the Golden Arches were very impressive, now that I look at them they look like a handle for the building.

How about when Sandy's opened at the corner of Towanda and Empire.  You could get the best French Fries for a dime.

A tree, bench, plaque or something even more special. I support the idea and will gladly help with a donation if approved. We were a special class. Recently I met a new member at my golf course from Bloomington graduated in 80's who was unaware of the history of the building and our class history as the first sophomore class to attend and graduate.

I'll agreewith a tree, plaque or whatever. Just tell me when and how much. We need to do it up right!

I believe that Sandies opened in anticipation of the neww BHS location. Of course, the school administration chose to have a closed lunch hour so they never florished as they'd expectes.

I hope everyone is giving some thought to the proposed idea of leaving the Class of 62's presence somewhere at BHS.  It's been suggested a tree, a bench or a plaque.  My thinking on the tree is trees get cut down, we want something that's going to outlive all of us but I'm at a loss as to what it could be, any suggestions?
