I don't know if I've put this on here before but it's oh so true, we had the best of times growing up!

WE  ARE A GENERATION THAT WILL NEVER COME BACK.
A generation that walked to school and then walked back.
A generation that did their homework alone to get out asap to play in the street.
A generation that spent all their free time in the streets with their Friends.
A generation that played hide and seek when dark.
A generation that made mud cakes.
A generation that collected sports cards.
A generation that found, collected, washed & returned empty coke bottles to the local grocery store for 5 cents each, then bought a Mountain Dew and candy bar with the money.
A generation that made paper toys with their bare hands.
A generation who bought vinyl albums to play on record players.
A generation that collected photos and albums of clippings of their life experiences as a Kid.
A generation that played board games and cards on rainy days.
A generation whose TV went off at midnight after playing the National Anthem.
A generation that had parents who were there.
A generation that laughed under the covers in bed so parents didn't know we were still awake.
A generation that is passing and unfortunately it will never return no matter how hard we try.
I loved Growing up when I did. it was the best of times.

Anyone who bowled at Savidge Brothers has to remember the Gas Station on the corner.  All of this was torn down (of course) so they could erect a Bar on the ground  floor and office space in the upper stories.

This next picture I had a hard time believing it was Quinn Service Station located on North Main across from Holy Trinity Church.  As long as I can remember  it was commercial in there and this looks like a whole different world.

This is how it looked in later years.  Mr. Quinn sold the property to,Holy Trinity and it's since been razed.

Fond Memories, my brother, Jeff, and I, and my nephew-in-law and my great nephew, went to the BHS high-school playoff football 🏈 game last night held at BHS. Exciting, at halftime the team was down 20 to 10, but in the second half the Raiders scored 21 unanswered points and won 31 to 20. Their first playoff win in 16 years. Once a Raider always a Raider!

It was a lovely fall evening with kids running around, parents cheering, the band playing, and poms and cheerleaders do their job.

The field was much brighter than in our day. artifical turf, and no more wooden bleachers now metal. A fun evening with many fond memories.

Happy Thanksgiving 🦃 Janice (Scott) Vitton ❤️

Remember The Bootery?

I remember the lower level where they had the machine you could see  the bones in your feet which were later done away with because they weren't safe.

My husband, Michael, worked his way through college working at the Bootery, selling shoes and keeping the books and sending out bills at the end of the month to regular customers; in the days before we had credit cards to pay for things, maybe besides gas? When my younger brother, David, was in college, he also worked at the Bootery. That machine went into storage upstairs initiially. I don't know what happened to it. And, probably, many of us know that The Bootery was owned and run by Fred Prillaman's (BHS 1961 graduate, I think) father and uncle, Jim and Carl Prillaman. Great old photos.
