Barb,

You are bringing up a lot of old memories.  I'm not in the site very much, but was fun looking at everything.  The Home Ec teacher lived in the LaFayette appartments also.  I lived accross the street from The Steak n Shake when it opened.  At that time the Coca Cola company was still producing coke in the bottles on the next corner.  I've been out of connection with things going on in Bloomington/Normal with us living in Florida

This is one of my favorite buildings from Bloomington which met its fate with the wrecking ball, Withers Public Library.  I have a hard time when they tear something down with historical significance.  It was a beautiful building and I have great memories of it.

This is a picture of the interior.

Thanks for finding this picture, Barb. I agree with you totally - tearing down that building was very sad.

I hope all of our classmates and families are staying safe these days, since we're all in that population that are more easily targetted - OLD!

The first photo of the drive in is of the original building built in the "40s. The photo on the postcard is from the rebuilt Sinorak after the fire of '63.

How many of you remember waiting for a bus at Walgreens and if the weather was bad you stood inside the door to keep warm?

07/20/20 01:14 PM #2197

Dan Shickle

Mucho times!  We didn't have a car so it was either ride the bus or walk uptown/downtown.  It was the central location for changing buses.  Busses ran ontime and the routes were very convenient, not like the mess we have now.   Service was the key back then, now it is how far can we make people walk to ride our big cities big busses.

Remember Adolphs which was owned by none other than Sharol  Brooks Brandt's Dad.  We bought a ceiling fan there that just quit three years ago.

Here is one of there advertisements which I asume was in the Pantagraph.

Who had the opportunity to go to East Bay Camp?

07/28/20 06:44 AM #2200

Terry aand I attended East Bay a few summers in the early 50's. Theeree was a big meeting hall that was put up by the Bloomington-Normal Trades and Labor Assemply. Our father worked on that. It burned down and I believe it is a basketball court now. Painted a lot of plaster indian heads, made a lt of lanyards, don't remember much about staying over night although I know we did.
