Heard about George this PM.  It  breaks my heart.  Where in Peoria is George.  Can I assume it is St. Francis.  Please let me know ; as I am close .  Seems so surreal to have just talked to them.  How can I get in touch with Irene?  She could stay here if she wishes instead of driving back and forth./ I too wish the thank Nancy, cousin Joe and all who put this together so we could all enjoy the weekend.  How wonderful it was.  So glad I was in school and have had the chance to be with each one of you.    Thank you all for being exactly  who you are, each a special part of the whole.

UPDATEGeorge is in OFS St. Francis Hospital, 530 N.E. Glen Oaks Ave., Peoria, Il. 61637.

309-655-2000. Room 4020. This in ICU and I'm enclosing it for cards ONLY. I think we are all smart enough to not try to go see him. Anyone wanting to send messages to them and/or donations, can mail them to OSF or to me and I will enclose them in a card.

Phil and I just saw this morning's paper and read the accident regarding George. We didn't know before who was involved.  Was just heart sickened that it was him. Our prayers to Irene and family.  Thanks Nancy and Joe for keeping us up-to-date. I will try to send a donation and a card. So so very sorry. We all need to live every day at a time and thank God for that day. I'm sure God is with the family.
Thanks also to Nancy, John Ed, Joe and Donna for all the hard work getting our 50th reunion together. What a great job. Way to go all of you. Enjoyed the day and evening visiting and seeing everyone. I hope I didn't offend anyone if I didn't have a chance to talk with you. Sorry we missed Sunday brunch but enjoyed the pictures. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the 55th too.

The latest from the Pantagraph, along with some of the comments.

NORMAL - The condition of George Flynn, 68, of Normal, who was pinned between two cars in an accident Wednesday, improved to fair Friday at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

He had been in critical condition Thursday evening.

The incident began about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday with a two-car accident on eastbound Virginia Avenue at the foot of Camelback Bridge just west of Linden Street, police said.

While Flynn was inspecting the damage, a third eastbound car came over the top of the bridge, but couldn’t stop in time on the rain-slicked, wooden bridge deck, police said.

The third car rear-ended one of the stopped cars, shoving it forward and trapping Flynn, police said.

RGB, I too want to thank you for caring for George in his time of great need. I have known George since grade school and he is a wonderful man and a great friend. It hurts so much to think about this tragedy and how much worse it could have been with out your assistance. You are a great example of the many fantastic folks that live in Central Illinois that care for their neighbors. May God bless you for what you did.

RGB, thank you VERY much for being there for our father. Words cannot express how grateful we are that he had such a kind samaritan to assist him in his time of need. Last evening, 30 hours after the accident and surgery, he was doing as well as can be expected and in good spirits. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers.

I don't know George, I only met him yesterday. He held my hand as I tried to slow his bleeding while we waited for the ambulance to come. He was brave the whole time. I've been checking this site a lot for updates and I'm very saddened to hear that he's in critical condition. I hope you get better, George.

The latest on George. He will remain in St Francis for 5-7 days.  He will be then transfered to a rehab home. There are three: one in Peoria, one in B/N and one in I think Danville. Pray he can be transfered to B/N.

My thoughts and prayers are with George, Irene, and Family but I wanted to share a few thoughts.....

I was looking at the photo of our cake and thinking how cool it looked and remembering those big trees that used to stand in front of the high school.

When we were in grade school the city would block Center Street and we played in the street and in front of THS. I remember playing marbles with Jack F. and some of the other guys by those trees. Remember how some of you used magnifying glasses and started the leaves on fire? On one occasion you actually caught the trees on fire and they burned for days?  Why do I remember these trivial things? I don't have a clue! When I looked at the trees, I just remembered the fun times that we had there.

Trisha, Bill Fey really wasn't (at least in person) at the reunion....It was really Joe Reinholtz.

Betsy, I can't look at the picture of the cake and not think of you.

Lola, Jerry Shepard Spano understands why you missed talking to her this weekend. She was in Tucson.

Jerry, Lola was really upset Sunday night. She said that she didn't see you so she missed talking to you. She didn't want you to think that she was rude! I told her you would understand...

I loved the fun stories that some of you shared with us Saturday Night.

That's all for now........

Linda Miller (Drennan)

I was just heartbroken to hear of George's terrible accident. I had a lovely visit with him and Irene on Saturday night, and his birthday was on Tuesday,as was mine.  My thoughts and prayer go out to George and Irene and the family. I pray he has the strength and faith to recover from this. It is so true that our lives can change in just a second.

Thank you to Nancy and Joe and everyone involved in planning the reunion. It was a lovely day, and I enjoyed seeing everyone, especially since I hadn't been to a reunion in 20 years!  Thank you, also, for the birthday wishes I received. It's so nice to be remembered.       Fondly, Linda

I just spoke to Mike Flynn. He said that George is doing well. He asked about his legs when he came out of sedation and handled the news well. Irene and their kids are a tower of strength for George and each other. Our prayers are a huge help! You have been very generous with your contributions to George and Irene. I am sending the first wave to Peoria in a couple of days. Feel free to continue to contribute as I will pass it along as I get it. I'm signing your names to a card from our class.

Linda, I'm sorry that I missed your BD....I knew it was this week but I totally forgot about it when we talked.

Everyone....When you check out  MESSAGE FORUM be sure to scroll. This way you won't miss any of the messages.

Joe, this site has proven to be a very valuable tool for connecting our class. Between our mass e-mails and classmates checking into this site, at least 90% of our class was aware of George's accident within hours of our first notification!  All of your hard work is paying off!!

We are adding new pictures so be sure to keep checking the THS '62 Pics.

It's been said that everlasting friends go long periods of time without speaking and never question their friendship. These friends pick up the phone like they just spoke yesterday, regardless of how long it's been or how far away they live. They feel each other's pain and joy. They don't hold grudges. They understand that life is busy and you will always love them.

I  think this pretty well describes the class of '62!!

Hi Everyone,

Just had to comment on our class of  '62. Phil had graduated in the class of '59 and thought what a great idea it was to have a site like this and wondered why their class didn't come up with something like this. I told him our class had been special and we had so many very smart people (especially Joe for bringing it to light). Nancy I could tell by the way you were speaking Saturday night, you do love all of us and we appreciate the thoughtfulness you have shown to everyone. Thanks so much for being you and you too Joe!  John Ed you're not too bad yourself. I wish we could have visited more, but we missed your brunch. Maybe we'll stop by and surprise you.

Marlene

George was moved into his own room in time to watch the Notre Dame game yesterday! He seems to be keeping his spirits up with the help of family. I sent the first wave of money to Irene by way of Curly Flynn. I will send more as I receive it.

I'm back home in Peoria, Arizona from our great runion. I had so much fun! It was nice seeing and visiting with everybody. A few who couldn't attend because of health problems, I drove to their homes and took photos. Joyce Wright showed up at Monicals for our Wednesday dinner and I went to Beer Nuts to take a photo of Louse Dietz. Considering her cancer, she's doing quite well, looks good and in extremely good spirits. I also stopped by Larry Wheats' barber shop and got a photo of him.

To those who have given me personal photos from the past, I'll scan them, upload them to our website and mail the originals back to you. Give me a couple of weeks please.

Thanks for the updates on George and blessings to him, Irene and their family. I have real good, positive feelings that all will get much better for them, thanks to all our prayers and the grace of God.

We are visiting our son in Boise, ID and learned of George’s accident.  It so hurts to read of his loss but then heartened to read of his immediate steps towards a healthy recovery.  The written expressions of support for George are inspiring.  George, I love you man.

Thank you Nancy, Joe, Mike and all classmates for making the 50th Reunion such an positive event.

Do any of you St. Mary's-"ites" know what happened to Pat Batini? Am I even spelling his name correctly? I'm posting a picture of John Ed, Pat, and John Thoms in RANDOM PICS. John Ed would love to reconnect with him.

George is still in St. Francis. He has not moved to rehab yet. Continue to post messages to George and Irene as I told them to keep checking here for our notes.

They are overwhelmed by our generousity but probably not too surprised because that's how the CLASS of '62 is. When one of our own is hurting, we are hurting too. We ALL love you, George and Irene!!
