Our danger was this summer; where we used to live is under evacuation and it looks like the whole village of Pacific Palisades is gone. In Sonoma County now.

I remember being so jealous of Janis, Jeanne Stillson and Bonnie Froom -- all members of the Boardman-Canfield Swim Club and wore that cool zinc on their noses and lips and were all trim, blonde and sunburnt all summer. It did my heart good to see Janis blonde and suntanned in the photo with her obit. 

The freedom we all shared to ride our bikes any- and everywhere, to be outdoors all day, to use our imaginations in orchards and open fields (mine was Tarzan's jungle), to gather without adult supervision and work out differences and real bonds -- we were privileged children and didn't even know it. I am so thankful to have been a part of it.

My husband, Charlie Meeker, passed away on February 18.Not many of you knew him -- and he was 10 years older than our class -- but he was a fiercely intelligent, courtly, and, above all, honest gentleman. He could also be a pain in you know exactly where. We are hanging in there. There is an obituary posted at the winery's website: www.meekerwine.com.
