I graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in Zoology in 1973. After graduating I spent 6 months working at Jackson Lake Lodge in Teton National Park and became interested in geology and outdoor activites like mountain climbing and hiking. I worked a year as a microbiology lab tech for a bread company in Dallas, then became an Earth Science teacher in Garland, TX. I married David Buffington in 1976 and moved to the DC area in 1980. During that time I also became a professional impressionist landscape oil painter and continue to do art shows. I was a stay at home mom until both children were in school at which time I returned to teach Biology and Earth Science in high school. I got a Masters Degree in Geoscience in 2003 and became National Board certified teacher in 2004. I have been teaching AP Environmental Science and was an AP Reader grading thousands of HS student essays wanting college credit. I also t meteorology for Averett University to marines at Quantico Marine Base for 10 years. David worked for General Services Administration and retiree in 2012. We enjoy gardening and travel. We moved to San Diego in 2014 where I am an educator on a whale watching tourist ship called the Adventure Hornblower. We are both docents leading hikes at Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve. David is a member of the Palomar Cactus Society and I am a member of the Off Track Gallery in Encinitas, CA. We travel frequently to see our family in VA, FL and TX. We also just returned from a trip to New Zealand.
Even though I moved in December of my junior year to Odessa, TX. I have lots of fond memories of great times with wonderful friends in Borger. I have lots of wonderful band trip memories. One Halloween Lucille Smithson and I put panty hose over our heads then pulled stands of hair through and walked to everybody's house we knew trick-or-treating. Some boys (don't remember who) jumped out from some bushes and scared us to death. I also remember hunting for Nancy Hollar's missing contact lens at night under a bridge with a flashlight. One time Luci and I were walking home from the park when a friendly couple offered us a ride. Each of us thought they were friends of the other, but neither of us actually knew them. Good thing they were psycho murderers! I also remember the haunted houses at First Baptist church. Remember the 9ft snow drifts and no school for two weeks?
