Hello everyone..   Mama passed away quietly this am.   I arrived to her house right after 7am, spoke with her night aide and then went back to say good morning to mom.  She was breathing pretty roughly, as she had been the past few days, but she stirred a bit when I went back there..  I told her I was going to grab my coffee, login to work and check email and then I would be back to visit with her.  I went back to her about 15 minutes later and she was gone.   Bob, Soozy, John, Katie and myself want to thank everyone for your support, kindness and love over these past several months.   Also for loving mom and being such a big part of her life.    Bob and I are meeting with Glen Abbey next week to discuss arrangements but we are pretty sure we will be postponing any sort of a memorial for mom until early next year.  She had definite ideas about the type of service she wanted and with COVID we wouldn't be able to honor her wishes.  We will be sure to let everyone know once the arrangements are made.   Love to you all

Obituary of Barbara Savoy

BARBARA (KELLY) SAVOY -- Barbara Savoy was born in Las Vegas, Nevada to Pat and Florence (Petey) Kelly on October 31, 1939. She went home to glory on December 11, 2020. Mom enjoyed growing up in the town of Boulder City, NV. Her father worked for The United States Bureau of Mines and her mother was a homemaker. Boulder City, NV was a small government town where everyone knew everyone else. She was a beautiful woman with a radiant smile who was voted Pony Bowl Queen as a young girl and was a cheerleader while living in Boulder City. Mom made lasting friendships there that would withstand a move to San Diego, CA and endure for a lifetime. When mom was still attending Chula Vista High School she met the love of her life, Donald Savoy. She was filling up her car at a Standard Oil gas station – he was the gas station attendant. She didn’t like him at first but he was persistent and they got married in 1957 when she turned 18. Mom held various jobs and careers over her lifetime, PSA boarding agent, phone company worker, Heinz ketchup factory worker (while Dad was stationed in Pittsburg with the Army), real estate agent, entrepreneur, bank teller, and secretary/administrative assistant. Over the course of their 52 year marriage they raised two children, Lynnda (John) Shepherd and Bob (Soozy) Savoy. They had 1 grandchild (Kaitlyn Shepherd) who was the light of their lives – especially moms. Dad passed away in 2009 and soon after his passing, mom retired from her job at Rohr/Goodrich in Chula Vista. Mom’s retirement was full of exciting times, and filled to capacity with good friends. Mom exercised 5 times a week with her Silver Sneakers friends and had a social calendar that was jam packed with events and get togethers. She will be greatly missed and forever loved by all. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband and is survived by her son, daughter, granddaughter and her brother, Ken Kelly of Rogersville, MO. Our family would like to thank Coast Care Partners for their care of mom these past several months and Avalon Hospice, for their unwavering kindness and attention to mama. She will be laid to rest and reunited with her husband, Don, on their 64th wedding anniversary - January 4, 2021 at Glen Abbey Memorial Park. Due to the Covid-19 there will be no service at this time but we will be planning something in the future – mom would want us all to get together, eat oatmeal cake, drink coffee and tell funny stories.
