Everyone should look into the Medicare complete plans.... all the carriers have them and they cover everything and the catastrophic benefits have a cap for the event so you are not wiped out should something bad happen! Enjoy! Deb

Saw Alice's post aboue Medicare Devoted and decided to share informaton on Medicare in general, don't know if anyone really needs to see this, but just in case.

Medicare Dovoted seems to be a Medicare Type C Advantage plan  As such it is more like an HMO where you use plan doctors and facilties, These plans may also include drug and other coverage so may be a good deal if you plan to stay in place and if your doctor and facilties you use in your location are available.

There are some things to consider when you decide about Medicare for the first time, but since class of 69 is now a group of 70 year olds I doubt many of us are signing up for the first time.  However I will share decisions that have to be made just in case some of you are just retiring - I did and then went back to work so have been through the decision process.

If you sign up for an Advantage plan or for traditional Medicare when you are initially eligible you are guaranteed coverage at the lowest going rate, but if you want to change from Advantage Plan to Traditional or from one Advantage Plan to another and your health has changed you can be charged more in premiums or even denied coverage.,

If you are in a Medicare Advantage Plan that fits where you live and then decide to relocate you may have to find another plan or switch to Traditional Medicare, if your Advantage plan doesn't cover the area you move to.   So traditional Medicare is portable.  This is one of its primary benefits, but it does require buying a separate Part D drug plan and a supplemental (Medigap) plan is just about essential to avoid paying a lot out of pocket.  This will cost more than an Advantage plan but if you plan to relocate or may have to head to Minnesota where the kids relocated when you someday need help, then you should look at Traditional plans.

Medigap plans paired with Traditional Medicare  are defined by federal law and all insurers must offer the same benefits.   Plan G covers almost everything,   You should pick the Medigap plan you want and shop price.  There are websites that specialize in finding the lowest price.   Drug plans in Part D can be inexpensive but you have to check your medications every year and make sure the copays stay reasonable.

It seemed awfully confusiing three years ago.  We chose Traditional  with Medigap Type G because we plan to relocate and so far we have 100% covereage after the federally set deductible that is currently $233 a year.. Our drug plans are less than $13 a month each and we have $0 copay for all but one drug that cost about $48 a year.

If you are still planning hope this helps.

You are making this too complicated... if you move to a different state, just check with an agent the Medicare complete plans that are good for that area... I used to sell these...

Virginia thank you for taking the time to set the requirements out.  Fortunately I worked for the federal government and have personal healthcare as well as Medicare A and B.  Since my personal health care is good, I didn't need to sign up for Medicare Parts C and D. But it was confusing figuring it out before I retired!   Lucinda

Anybody recall which of us once said...  "Poems are made by fools like me, but only God can make a man."   That still cracks me up today!

Just had a bout with Covid Omicron.
Tough few days.I had a total of 5 Covid
shots witch included 3 boosters.Without
the vaccines I'm sure it would have been worse.
So many friends that thought Covid was a hoax
are dead now.Please.It's not a joke.We're not
spring chickens anymore.Covid loves us old people.
:)..uh..Seniors.

Johnny, so true!    I know a lot of folks who got COVID recently after having all the boosters and they made it through.  Unfortunately I knew people who got COVID before the shots were available and the key word is "knew" - they did not make it..

Thank God for modern science!

@ Virginia-I guess I am an Independent that like
you, believes in Science.Unlike many conservatives of our
time I believe in climate change. All the great minds of the
World have proven it.I believe that Covid is real.
No matter where it came from.I don't believe the vaccines
stop you from getting it.I do believe they keep most that
would die,from dying.You know Virginia,I took science
In the 6'th grade.I believed it then.I believe it now.
Stay well my friend.

BHSers'69 I was sick for one month in '18 with a thing that could've killed me. The next year I was watching tv and they were describing the Covid-19 thing and I said that's exactly what I had. So I tell people I had Covid-18. The jab was so popular. I did not take it bec of herd immunity. After researching things I'm glad I didn't. I pulled a muscle in my back from coughing so hard without sitting up. I have a hard time breathing now. Could it be bec I'm old and out of shape from having my stroke in '93? Maybe.
I went to the ER when I was sick. After X-rays they sent me home with some  Tramadol and said " you don't  have pluerisy."  They had no idea what was wrong with me in '18! I'm going to try to get better by riding my new trike.

'Greg-- Please send pictures of new trike

Cuz of my chronic illnesses- you know I have progressive MS but you may not know I have asthma and 4 bouts of cancer --so I took the J&J shots last year cuz I wasn't about to take the Pfizer or Moderna shots-stuck this year cuz stupid federal government (and I can call it stupid cuz worked 40 years for it) won't let me take the Novavax shots so I took my first Moderna shot-- my husband says I talk too much but otherwise seem no dna differences noted thus far.  Take the booster first week of November so will update you on any dna changes.  Some will think I am kidding but you know me. Love, Lucinda

feeling normal. On Saturday I tested negative.
2 Modernas and 3 Phyzers.Like you my wife has gone
through extensive cancer treatments and can only
Pray she does not get it.But she too took the shots
and as prepared as possible.I really think,in time,
we will all get it.I think it's a given. We can only
Vax ourselves and hope for the best.PS:the only
Side effect of the shots thus far on my wife is
she ran fever with a slight headache for 1 day after her
1'st booster.Oh and it effected my golf game.
Golfers got to have excuses you know..).

Anyone remember Kitirik, Cadet Don, Utah Carl, Art Grindle, Marvin Zindler, Dan Patrick (f/k/a Dannie Goeb) when he was a pompous goofball sports reader, Sid Lasher doing weather with a magic marker on a flip chart,  Ron Stone, Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Yosemite Sam, "Weird" horror movies on TV Saturday nights?

Romper Room?  The Twilight Zone?  Bonanza?  My Three Sons? Or even earlier, The Danny Thomas Show?  Sunday nights were Disney nights.

R.I.P. Glen Pool..

When most of us met in high school,Britanica framed us as "Adolesants".Decades later we are now framed as "Septuagenarians".So what does that mean?It means we have so many miles on us that not even "CarShield" will write a policy on us :)..Michael Landen said as he was dying, for us all to' live life to its fullest'.I hope that all of our classmates that have passed did just that. That all remaining do the same and find your maker along the way.Ok then.As Larry the Cable Guy says-"Get e'r Done !"

A funeral service for Davis O’Neal Barker, 72, is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at First Methodist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Russell Martin and Rev. Patrick Evans officiating. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will begin on Monday, May 22, 2023, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Davis was born on December 1, 1950, in Cleveland, Texas and passed away on May 17, 2023. Davis was thoroughly committed to education and invested 47 years in the lives of his students. He was also a former coach and had a strong passion for football and baseball as well as other sports. Davis was a deep thinker who spent much of his time “pondering” about things around him or issues of the day and such. He loved history and baseball and spent countless hours reading and researching both topics. Over the years, he contributed to several books on the subject of minor league baseball. He was always happy to share his knowledge with anyone who would listen. Davis enjoyed his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Mancel and Maxine Barker, and first wife, Linda Jane Barker.

Left to cherish Davis’s memory are his wife of 20 years, Debbie Barker of Jacksonville, and children, Craig Barker and wife Mystie of Kaufman, Meagan Martin and husband Russell of Crosby, and Shane Standfield and wife Kristi of Athens. His siblings are Kathy Barker of Jacksonville, and Susan Morris and husband Wendell of Jacksonville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.

Pallbearers will be Shane Stanfield, Dawson Barker, Shane Kim, Steven Morris, Mike Ricketts, Joshua Best, and Alec Tatum.
