R.I.P. Glen Pool..

When most of us met in high school,Britanica framed us as "Adolesants".Decades later we are now framed as "Septuagenarians".So what does that mean?It means we have so many miles on us that not even "CarShield" will write a policy on us :)..Michael Landen said as he was dying, for us all to' live life to its fullest'.I hope that all of our classmates that have passed did just that. That all remaining do the same and find your maker along the way.Ok then.As Larry the Cable Guy says-"Get e'r Done !"

A funeral service for Davis O’Neal Barker, 72, is scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at First Methodist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Russell Martin and Rev. Patrick Evans officiating. He will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will begin on Monday, May 22, 2023, with family receiving friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Davis was born on December 1, 1950, in Cleveland, Texas and passed away on May 17, 2023. Davis was thoroughly committed to education and invested 47 years in the lives of his students. He was also a former coach and had a strong passion for football and baseball as well as other sports. Davis was a deep thinker who spent much of his time “pondering” about things around him or issues of the day and such. He loved history and baseball and spent countless hours reading and researching both topics. Over the years, he contributed to several books on the subject of minor league baseball. He was always happy to share his knowledge with anyone who would listen. Davis enjoyed his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Mancel and Maxine Barker, and first wife, Linda Jane Barker.

Left to cherish Davis’s memory are his wife of 20 years, Debbie Barker of Jacksonville, and children, Craig Barker and wife Mystie of Kaufman, Meagan Martin and husband Russell of Crosby, and Shane Standfield and wife Kristi of Athens. His siblings are Kathy Barker of Jacksonville, and Susan Morris and husband Wendell of Jacksonville. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving friends.

Pallbearers will be Shane Stanfield, Dawson Barker, Shane Kim, Steven Morris, Mike Ricketts, Joshua Best, and Alec Tatum.

Thanks for the recognition for the grands and me. You are so kind!  People would know me as Janice Mangum Colwell! My daughter married Scott Henderson, so I am related to the Henderson's! 😊

I'm coming to the "68 Reunion next weekend! My brother let me tag along with so many of his friends and their trombone adventures, and I knew so many in his class. I hope some of you who knew Richard could come and visit with us! I know those of you at Lake Jackson Jr High will remember him as the Drum Major at the football games with the 2' shako. Hope to see some of you there!

Greetings,

Is there any interest in a '69 class get-together to celebrate 55 years? The key, as always, is getting the contact information.  Susan Legros Downs and I talked about this at the '68 reunion and well, recently she reminded me of that conversation.  I have no idea the status of the Class of '69 coffers for  money or contacts.

So whatcha' think?

Glen, I emailed Susan to have her sign up on our website. Alice D. Smith

Happy New Year!

Always looking for reasons/excuses to travel from CT to visit my elder son and grandson in Houston.  I'd show up for a 55 reunion if the timing works.

Happily, we've been able to spend time with Margaret Willis Boles and John, since their move to NYC in 2022.  They even traveled out to Westport for BBQ last summer, with photo to prove it happened:

I'm saddened to post that David Bebout recently passed away. David was one of my best friends from the time I moved to Lake Jackson in 1965. Smart, funny guy with a wicked sense of humor. RIP, David.

Back in 1979 I bought a brand new 1979 Ford Granada from a Houston dealership.  A few days later, the dealer called me and said they hadn't charged me enough and I still owed $2,000 because they gave me too much on the trade-in.  I conicidentally had talked to David a few days before, so I called him and asked for his help.  The next day, the dealer called me and said they had made a mistake, I didn't owe anything, and by the way I could get 10 free oil changes if I would let David know they had called me back.  Years later I met up with David in Taos, and we had a good laugh about it.

Godspeed, David.

Thanks for posting about David Bebout.   Somehow I barely encountered him in high school but remember him from middle school, where he was one of the sharpest tacks in the box and already displayed that wicked wit.   I had wondered what became of him and am glad he had what appears to be a good and interesting life.

Many of us knew Randy Burnett who passed away yesterday at his home in Brazoria.  He went to high school in West Columbia and attended classes with many of us at Brazosport College and Sam Houston.  His career was with several retail businesses in the Brazosport area including Weiner's in Freeport, manager of the Service Merchandise in Brazos Mall, and at CVS.  His service will be this Saturday at First Baptist Church in Brazoria at 1pm.  Rest in Peace, Randy.

No cruise for me. I get nauseous thinking about boat rides, though my lil bro said they compensate for wimpies like me.

Stan Alcott

Are you kidding me; at our age? I've done many cruises, but there are a lot of folks like Greg who don't like cruising nor want to spend the extra funds for it.

Our 50th type of get-together would be more practical for the majority and get a good turn out - just sayin'.

Looks  H Jones is pulling off the planning of the Brazoport Exporters - Class of '69 Reunion - # 55. Date is June 22, so look for details or contact Glen. For the golfers - If interested we are planning a scramble tournament at The Wilderness early on Saturday - June 22, 2024. We will have to pre-pay, so send me a Benjamin, one of my favorite dollar bills - or a check - or Venmo a $ 100 to @Michael-Poehl , it will cover range balls, greens fee, golf cart fee and lunch aftewards at the clubhouse. If you are Member at The Wilderness, send me a DM and they will develop a cost based on your level of Membership at The WildernesGlen

Glen - is this a confirmed date for those of us coming from out of town and need to make a hotel reservation?

Will this be at the civic center like we had on the 50th?

I appreciate your time in getting us together and have you had much of a response yet...

Thanks, Stan
