Jim-
There is only one reason to go to Vernal and that's for a paycheck. HL did the QAQC for the Red Fleet Dam being built in the late 70's and early 80's. Not much good to say about the town but the mountains North were spectacular-at least to this little flat land girl from Texas. The highest thing I had driven over before that trip North was the Surfside Bridge. Driving thru Colorado on Hwy 40 was quite an experience-especially
Rabbit Ear Pass!

Jim, have you tried Old Town Mexican Cafe in San Diego?

It's a good one! We drive down sometimes just to eat lunch or dinner...about an hour and a half to 2 hours away from us here in the OC.

Barbara Ludeman (Frazier)

Joe Ballard: Amazon Adventures - Wow! Which teacher was it that read those books to us? Mrs. Scroggins in 4th grade? I loved listening to those stories. The one part that I've never forgotten is the part where one of the characters wakes up to find a vampire bat drinking up from his big toe or something like that?

Kitty, any damage in the OC from the quakes?

04/24/09 03:03 PM #517

Joe Ballard

Barbara you kow I think you are right about Ms Scoggins!!! I had forgotten about Mr.Lee wow it is amazing how collectively we are all bringing things back together. Does anyone remember Ms. Wiley, she was one of my favorites a Beutel, it may have been because I had a crush on her. Mr Gibson was my sixth grade teacher and I believe Ms May was she second or third.

Ron:I haven't heard of any damage from yesterday's quake. I was right here in my homeoffice and didn't feel a thing!
My husband's on a business trip and called to be sure we were okay...what a surprise! Allison and I knew nothing!

Joe:Did you know that Ms. Wiley married Kay Evans dad?! Cool, huh?

Hey neighbor--Drive a few miles to Burleson...you'll enjoy the TexMex food at Frescos in "Old Town." They have GREAT margaritas too!

Judy Teague (Crenshaw)

o.k. guys, this talk of Mex. food is killing me! I am already hungry, and now you are talking about my fav. food.

When I moved to GA in 79 the only Mex. food was Taco Bell.!!! I told them that wasn't Mex. food. We would drive to Tallahassee, Fl about once a month just to eat Mex. food. (80 miles) You couldn't even find food in the grocery store to make it.

The stores finally started carrying refried beans and taco shells. I experimented and learned to make sourcream-chicken enchiladas. Heaven!

Now we have a great restaurant here and we eat Mex. every Wed. night.
Ole!

Hello guys...I know this is off topic, but does anyone on this forum care about the Houston Rockets? They are 1-1 in the first round with Portland and they play tonight. I have loved the franchise since the days of Elvin Hayes and Rudy T. I didn't get to the games in Memphis this year. Living in Tennessee can be lonesome if you are a Houston fan...Well, Go Rockets!

=======================================================
YES, GO ROCKETS. THEY ARE NOW 2-1 AGAINST THE TRAILBLAZERS. EVEN THOUGH IT HAS BEEN A FIGHT FOR THE ROCKETS TO WIN, I THINK THEY WILL DEFEAT PORTLAND IN THE SERIES. Alice D. Smith

Jd Barnett:

I'm with Margaret on the El Toro suggestion, only if I don't have to go to church, though. Having all of my classmates hit by lightning would not be a good thing, I think.

Kitty, I've not eaten down there in San Diego. I only go through there on my way to Baja, and I'm usually fasting in preparation for the world's best fish tacos which are served out of the taco stand on the northeast edge of the city park in San Quintin, Baja Ca. Norte. I'll give it a try...you're a mite closer than I am, since I'm a good 3 to 3 1/2 hours north of you. Depending on your traffic.

A good Baja fish taco is hard to beat, though isn't on my list of approved heart healthy foods...at least a guy would die with a smile on his face if killed by a Baja fish taco.

I remember the Adventure book series. Back in the eighties one of my exes, who does not live in Texas, tracked down and gave me a complete set of the Adventure books. They were as good the second time around as they were the first. And the vampire bat incident happened to Roger. It might have been Mrs. Scroggins that read them.

My teachers were Mrs. White (K), Mrs. Epps, Mrs. ? (2), Mrs. Goddard (babealicious, even to a third grader), Mrs. Howell/Scroggins, Mrs. Rhea, and Mr. Gibson (6).

Joe, Mrs. Wiley (purple rules!) was one of my top five teachers of all time.

There are two BBQ places in Clute, Brian's and D.J.'s, both are good with different flavors. D.J.'s is a bit spicier. There is also a good BBQ place in Richwood
called Lone Star BBQ. They catered our sons wedding
reception and I like them a lot.
Jim- we'll let you slid on the church thing-that's between you and God.
Loved Mrs. Wiley-had her for 8th grade history. She was one of my fav teachers also.

Jd Barnett:

Gary, I left before they were established. I'm a diehard Astros fan, though, and was an Oilers fan before they died. I can't get excited about the Texans, since there used to be a team of that name in (horror) Dallas!

I lived in Salt Lake City so long that I always root for the Jazz, who miraculously beat the Lakers last night by two points.

I'll root for Houston in your honor. Unless the Jazz pull through against the Lakers...(yeah, as if...)

I still think Bobby Shantz rules! A make believe Colt .45 cap to anyone who remembers him...

My first job (not counting a paper route) was busing tables at El Toro Restaurant. Nacho would make me the best beef enchiladas...that was the best part of the job. The rest of it sucked. I never did figure out why bus boys didn't get part of the tip...we worked our butts off!
