Margaret Dubois (Ammons)

Happy Birthday, Donna-add a new "butt" dress to the list of things to buy.

10/02/09 10:31 AM #2392

Donna Billie (Jones)

Thank you, ladies, for the BD wishes. Shoes--yes! Butt dress--maybe! My cool boss gave me the day off, so I'm off on a shopping spree this afternoon. And my cool husband brought me coffee in bed and my favorite Chanel #5. I'm set for a great day!

Sandra English (Byers)

My husband Bobby has gotten a great report. His last test showed one small nodule and slightly enlarged thyroid. His first test was very enlarged thyroid with calcification/nodules. Thanks for praying!

John Devens

Tell Bobby we're praying for him.

I hope ya'll have a good time at Jim's and Jacque's. I had a previous commitment and will not be there.

To the family of Mr. Magee: We are sorry for your loss. It will be the little things that you will remember, the quiet moments, the smiles, the laughter. And although it may seem hard right now, it will be the memories of these little things that help to push away the pain and bring the smiles back again. With Loving Memories

I was talking to Jackie Sorrell today about Mr. Magee's passing. He told me that his brother, Johnny Sorrell class of '68, had been summoned to Lake Jackson last week by Mr. Magee. Apparently Mr. Magee requested Johnny to sing three songs at his funeral...I don't know what they might be. Let's pray for Johnny to have the fortitude and anointing he will need to minister there in song as he seeks to honor the Lord and his mentor.

Donna Billie (Jones)

What an honor for Johnny. Mr. Magee was a powerful force in our community for a long time. He'll be missed!

Carroll, Thank you for posting that lovely tribute to Mr.Magee by Ron Rozelle. It was a lovely tribute for a lovely man.

10/04/09 09:41 PM #2399

Maria Seidler (Atkins)

Carrol, I too appreciate your posting of Ron R. message about Mr. Magee. Mr. Magee certainly made a huge impression on my life. I remember being in choir and although I was really very very shy in those days. (I really was).. Mr. Magee helped me build confidence in my singing. Although I did not compete in contests in choir.... I eventually had the courage to sing in all of my brother's and sisters weddings. I even sang a duet (Endless Love) with Skip Vandergriff when my brother and his sister were married back in the late 70's. I was always so nervous....but it somehow worked out OK. I even sang in my cousin Mike Poehl's brother's wedding in the 70's. I probably wouldn't have had the courage to do so, if it weren't for Mr. Magee. He was the greatest.

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I enjoyed hanging around the house and getting some chores done, which I rarely have time for these days.

Carrol Reneau (Jeffers)

You're welcome, ladies. Seems like Mr. Magee had a powerful impact in a great many lives - what a legacy, most of us are satisfied just to make a difference in one life.

I am working on a HUGE new slide show from John Smith's photographs. It is time consuming and I started too late tonight (but tomorrow is Monday and by its very nature wrecked any way!). I hope to get at least a portion posted ASAP. I would like to say tonight but I am waaaaay past my night-night time. I'm just trying to get to a stopping point right now. Have an OUTSTANDING OCTOBER, sweet people.

I think this was posted earlier (like some time last year) but . . . it is a very, very good read and we 'leak' information so let's read it again. Thanks, John Devens, for providing this.

It is recommended that we all read this at least once a week. Make sure you read to the end. It was written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio. "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written.

My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:

1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.

3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.

5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.

8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.

9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.

10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.

11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.

12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.

13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.

15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks.

16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.

17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.

19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else .

20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.

21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.

22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.

23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple.

24. The most important sex organ is the brain.

25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.

26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words, 'In five years will this matter?'

27. Always choose life.

28. Forgive everyone for everything.

29. What other people think of you is none of your business.

30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.

31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

33. Believe in miracles.

34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.

35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.

36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.

37. Your children get only one childhood.

38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.

39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.

40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.

41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

42. The best is yet to come....

43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

44. Yield.

45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."

Marian Sahr (Bullard)

TY Joy for the prayer request for mom. It breaks my heart seeing her in ICU. She had a heart attack and has pneumonia. She is stable. After conversing with my family and my pastor, I will be coming tomorrow and they will keep me updated. I do not want to go but I am one of the speakers. Momma insisted that I go. I will call tomorrow before I leave to see if there is improvement. My mom is a strong woman that was 34 when my dad was killed at Dow leaving her with 5 small children to raise. I couldn't imagine myself going thru such trauma. Please everyone pray for her and pray that I arrive to Austin safely. God Bless
