ANGLETON — An Angleton man died Friday afternoon after his motorcycle collided with an SUV in front of department store in the 1800 block of Highway 288-B, Angleton police said.

Barry Lynn Gleaton, 57, was driving south on Highway 288-B on a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle near the Cannan intersection when a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban pulled out of store toward the northbound lanes, Angleton Police Officer Brad Briscoe said.

Gleaton’s motorcycle hit the Suburban’s left front fender, Briscoe said. Gleaton died at the scene and was taken to the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, Briscoe said.

The driver of the Suburban, Primitivo Juarez, 47, of Holiday Lakes, was not injured in the accident but was taken to the Angleton Danbury Medical Center to give a blood sample, Briscoe said.

No citations have been issued in the accident, and it still is under investigation, Briscoe said.

Highway 288-B was shut down from Cannan to Piney Way from 5 to 8 p.m., Angleton Fire Chief Eric Smith said.

Juarez was wearing a seat belt and Gleaton was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the accident, Briscoe said.
