Keith McGough**

Keith McGough was born June 5, 1951 and grew up in Clute, Texas. Keith McGough died on October 14, 1998. He had cancer and after his first chemo treatment he suffered a brain aneurysm that led to his death.

He was married to Judy Burkes (class 68) for 21 years and had two children Brian and Barbara. Brian has 2 children and Barbara has 3. He and Judy divorced and he married Mary Hughes Kellum and was married to her at the time of his death.

He was very proud to be from Clute Jr. High. He loved football and his dream was to play at college and later coach. He was in a car accident when he was a junior that left him without vision in one eye and neck injuries. He still tried to play, but the coaching staff was afraid of permanent injuries and did not allow him much playing time. He was discouraged by this and really never got over it. His favorite past time was watching and rooting for his teams each weekend.

After marrying, he relocated to Angleton and supported their athletic program. He was very involved in Angleton baseball. He coached for over 12 years and his teams usually received first place honors. He was fortunate to be the All-Star coach many years. He started Angleton in the American Legion League to continue his love of the boys and the sport. He was also President of the League for many years where it grew to become one of the best organzations in the history of the league. He was dedicated to his obligations and enjoyed being on the field every day of the week.

He loved Jesus and had recently begun a new walk with Him before learning of his diagnosis of cancer. He was a family man. He loved being with family and playing with his grandchildren who lovingly refer to him as "Papa Goo".

His life touched many people, as was evident when he was in ICU in Houston. The hospital said they had never had so many people in the waiting room for one person for so long. The hospital staff came to love him through his family during the days ahead.  He worked for TDC and Dow Chemical.   He is missed greatly by all of his friends and family.

Keith was one of my very best friends in junior high and high school. We ran around alot together and I always enjoyed being around him. He and I actually quit football in highschool on the same day. There were some circumstances that I would rather not elaborate on that caused us to quit. I don't think it was his vision. I miss you Keith. God speed.

Keith was a huge part of my life through 2 1/2 years of dating and 21years of marriage. I'm thankful for our life together that gave us 2 children. We now have 6 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Most of my memories of my young adult life include him. I loved being part of k family. I'm thankful if it was God's will to take you so soon that he showed mercy preventing you from a lot of pain. RIP until we all meet again

Gee, Keith along with Harold Gartman, Kerry Franks, Steve Edison and I were friends from about the age of 5 or 6. We were both in kindergarten togehter along with elemnetary school, Clute Jr. High, and BHS. many times we were together along with all the "Gang" from Clute. Keith stayed over at my house many times and we played football togehter at Clute Jr. High. The night we beat Lake Jackson 20-16, we all celebrated and Keith was right there with us.

I called him "Mr. Mc Goo". I miss you Keith!

It has been 11 years today since you left us. I still can't believe it. 47 years old and God feels you have completed your mission and wants you with Him. How can I argue with God? He knows what's best. I'm thankful that He loved you enough that you didn't suffer as the cancer spread to the bone. I'm grateful that He allowed our paths to cross and for all the lessons I learned and feelings I experienced by knowing you. We all still miss you. You have 6 beautiful grandchildren that I'm sure you are watching from heaven. You are forever in the hearts of those that love you.

Dianne Fowler Bean, BHS Class of 68 asked me to post the following for her:

Keith was a friend, and more like family at times. He married my bestest friend, Judy Burkes. I spent time with them when they were dating (sometimes we double dated - do people still do that?). We spent much time together as couples playing cards, visiting, just having fun. We all went to Gilley's when it was a really "in" spot to go to. Keith was a really good man - he made mistakes, as we ALL do, but that did not change the basic character of that good man. I really loved him as a friend and like a brother. When we went to see them one time, Keith - who loved kids - was trying to get our daughter Heather to come to him. She was a bit shy sometimes, and really just wanted her Mommie usually. Keith gave her a stuffed bunny that night. That bunny was her most treasured possession for a very long time. Heather went to live with Jesus in Heaven 01-01-1975. When they learned of her death, when I called them, there was no hesitation. Without enough money to do so, and having to take off work, Keith and Judy still managed to come to us - driving through ice & snow to get there to us. They were the first ones to arrive, and just came in and they both just hugged us and held us. I loved Keith like a brother, and was very saddened when he left us. I cannot believe it has been so long. I extend prayers & sympathy to his family and friends, and thank God for Keith, and those of us who were able to be a part of his life.
