"On a side note......It still blows my mind that Jeff Hawkins is the Principal at Battle...Who knew back 20 years ago!"

WOW, how did that happen. I learned something new today!!!

My niece, who graduated from Battle last year, when she started Battle, I was in and I believe I was looking through her yearbook and was looking at the teacher section and saw him. At the time, he was teacher but in the last couple of years has become the principal.

I was a teacher's assistant at Abingdon 4 years ago for two years, and the last year I was there he (Jeff Hawkins) was the assistant principal under Mr. Noe. Then he went to Battle after that.

I didn't know him from Battle, did he go to school there?

Another side note (I am copying you Kathy ;) haha)...the first year I was there, Keith Perrigan was the principal :) He is now principal at Patrick Henry.

Its not just Jeff Hawkins up there at JSB; there are other former JSB classmates teaching there now. Kevin Perrigan teaches Algebra & coaches, Mike Posey teaches World History I think it is & coaches. My daughter had both of them this past school year. Also, Pam Perrigan teaches at High Point Elem. & is the varsity cheerleading coach at JSB. Seems like I am forgetting another one.....oh yeah, Robbie Cruise is the resource officer; didn't he go to JSB & isn't he Karen's little brother??

Keith Perrigan was also the Assistant Prinicpal at Battle for a while before moving to Abingdon.
I think between he and Kevin, they have had to rotate schools because of Keith's administrative role.

Kathy,

Doesn't your neice have some connections where we could possibly get some trees or other plants donated for the cause? We could even look into finding someone to donate a plaque or give us a discounted price.

I had a wee bit of a crush on Keith before school started that year. I think we may have even went out on a date or two ;)

I can not believe the info on this message board. I need to read more often- daily. JEFF HAWKINS as principal! Oh My Goodness! He's a far cry from V.T. and Jim Rector huh. I like the memorial idea with the trees. They were all special people and Eugenia and Jr. were very good friends of mine. I would be happy to give money for that.

Here is the link to the JSB website. You can check out who is on faculty, now. http://jsbhs.wcs.k12.va.us

There are still a few familiar names on the list..
L.D. Booher, Jenny Williams, Bill Phelps, Terry Fleenor, and John Peltier were the ones I noted.
I also saw that the Ingles who were on the janitorial staff are still there!

Mike Posey and Phil McCroskey were ahead of us, but they are teaching, now too! Would have never guessed Posey to be a teacher....but who would have thought Jeff Hawkins would be their boss!
You just never know what path people will choose in life! Kudos to all of them.

I read in the paper a couple months ago that Jenny Williams contract was not renewed due to some controversy with the volleyball team. She was interviewed by BHC about it. If I find the link to the article I will edit and post it right here.

Found it...

Yes, I can't believe that they are letting Coach Williams go. She has proven to be an awesome volleyball coach & has taken the team to state numerous times throughout the years. My daughter is on the volleyball team and she loves Coach Williams. Yes, she is tough but thats why her team always excels. They have still not hired a replacement for her so we are still holding out hope that they will renew her contract.

"Mike Posey and Phil McCroskey were ahead of us, but they are teaching, now too"

I wanted to ask my Aunt Terri first before I wrote this so I was sure I was telling this right... Phil McCroskey that teaches at Battle is still the same Mr. McCroskey that taught when we were there. He is the brother-in-law of my Aunt, Terri McCroskey. She drives a bus for Battle and Wallace and probably hauled you cuties around back in the day..lol! Mr. McCroskey has a son Philip that was in the 8th grade when we were seniors. He teaches Hort/Ag at Marion High School. He also has a daughter Mindy who teaches the same at Abingdon High School. Shan :)

Kenny...that sounds great. I was actually thinking of the weeping willow or dogwood type of trees. Thanks...

I thought that maybe if we could either get enough $$ or donations to get 4 trees..one for each person. Just a thought!

On the photo bucket site, there's a picture from about 5th grade with this caption:
Tamatha, not sure in the back(anyone else got an idea, sorry), Lisa, Debbie, and April

That's Angie Marsh in the back.

Ok, this is totally wierd, but that picture I put up of Jody at my grandparents house has blacked out, but when I clicked on it to make it bigger you could see it! Maybe that is a sign that he doesn't want it there! LOL!!!! Does it look like that on anyone else's monitor?

EDIT: 10 a.m. I just got to work and it looks normal on this monitor. That is so strange!

I've got some really good graduation pictures I will try to scan tonight. I have one I know of Junior that will be good for a memorial. Thanks Shannon for putting the picture of me and Todd. That was at VHS Senior Prom. We have changed ALOT!!!

You are welcome Marie. I found alot of pictures that I must have carried in my wallet in my memories album. That was one of them. :) Glad you liked it!!!

The idea of planting trees in memory of our former classmates is a great idea. I bet it will have to be approved through the school board though. I will be glad to give money if it is approved, just let me know. I will also let Eugenia's Mom know if we are able to do it. She will be so appreciative and touched by it.

This is just a thought, but I think it would be nice if we waited to plant the trees until our reunion and we could all go up there together and plant them and have some type of a memorial service for them all as classmates. Does that sound ok?

Marie, Todd could say something for them since he is a pastor.

Or, some of us could go earlier and actually plant them before we all go up there together?
