I retired June 1, 2008 after 26 1/2 years with Tulsa 911 as a call-taker and police dispatcher. I had previously been a dispatcher and municipal court clerk for Broken Arrow for 6 years. After retiring, I traveled for 5 months with many different family members to Graceland in Memphis, Branson, SeaWorld in San Antonio, Padre Island and Alaska. I spent 2 weeks in Alaska with David, another week there with my sister-in-law and just over 3 weeks traveling all over the state by myself. I flew by small plane to Barrow on the Artic Ocean, to Kodiak Island to see the grizzlies, by small boats and cruise ships to visit the glaciers. I stayed in hostels and met some great fellow adventurers, it was wonderful. It was hard to be away from my family so I came back to BA. No grandkids but I still live on the 160 acre farm where where I grew up with 28 members on my family in 11 homes. I started working part-time as a receiptionist at Kindred Hospital and volunteer with several organizations: American Red Cross, BA Historical Society Museum, and Tulsa CASA.
I attended all 12 years at B.A. riding about an hour morning & afternon on bus 1. I grew up out in Wagoner county and my neighbors were Teresa Medlock, Cynthia Johnson, Teresa Stevens, Paul Bray, David Burchett, Cathy Tinker, Diane Cox, Damonda Clay, Jack Autry, Debbie Chizmar. I was closer to them than most of the town kids until high school when Pam Colby widened my circle of friends.
The funniest story happened in 2nd grade at Southside and was completely forgotten until 10th grade when I saw Gary Skocdopole for the 1st time in 8 years. Evidently one morning I was feeding my dog some dry dogfood as I waited for the bus and when it came, I stuck the dogfood in my coat pocket. Later at school, Gary and I got hungry and were caught sharing some doggie snacks in class. I completely forgot until Gary reminded me of the incident.
