I have good memories of going to school with Leon Shirley and him being in my circle of friends. That included Tom Towry, Garry Powers, Phil Ragan and Ralph Barger. Leon seemed always in a good mood. He was down to earth and got along with everyone. Tom and I would sometimes keep an eye on who he was hanging out with, out of concern that his good nature might get him into a predicament. The picture of Leon posted here is a really good example of his positive approach to life. I still remember the upbeat tone in his voice. For years since graduation, I kept losing track of Leon. I thought he might be living out of state, but the obituary shows he has been in Oklahoma. No information about the funeral home or where he was buried? If we have not been grateful for our blessings, the loss of them is a sharp reminder. All my best to Leon's family and other friends and classmates.

Leon and I were friends from Jr High at Central till the time he left early BAHS to marry Joan. He worked and lived out 71st and Ben Lumpkin Rd at the Wagoner County work barn in that little trailer for years. Like all  things go we lost touch as life continued.  As kids, I would sometimes ride the bus home from school with Leon as he lived in Wagnor county. It seemed like another state away in those days. I still remeber the bus pulling up to Leon's house and that big GOOSE would come and chase us. If you crossed the fence, you'd have to wrestle the damn thing to stay alive. Keith, Gary and I were all friends back in Jr High. I was sorry to hear from Keith Purtell that our friend had passed away. His photo here coild have been taken in 1970 as he didn't change much over the years. See you soon my friend !
