Rol,

I thought you had a great time in St. Louis.  I experienced my first earthquake there.  I didn't even know there was a fault line there.  It's good to hear from you too.

Jon,

Hi Jon.  I never answered you.  Yes, I remember counting Ms. Schwabe's "you knows".  Last year I noticed that I was saying "you know"  frequently.  I have been unable to break the habit.  Fifty years later she is getting her revenge on me.

The class is picking up steam.  I like all the posts.  Has anyone heard from Dan Mangano?  He and I had a lot of fun in homeroom.

Happy Mother's Day to all you mothers and grandmothers.  My mother died in 1974.  I've been a orphan since then.  Enjoy your mothers tomorrow.

Don:

It's all "biological", or more precisely, "psychological", even 50 years later.  And by the way, don't call me a mother, even on Mother's Day.

Rol:  We hope to be northbound on Lake Champlain, in August [God willing, and the river don't rise -- the Hudson River].  I know that's two states away from Maine, but maybe we could do a meet in Burlington.

Jon

I received this email on the Contact Us link from Bernie Bushardt, a  '64 classmate . There is some good news to report from our class.

From: Bernie Bushardt

Email: bfb466@aol.com

"On March 28th I had 40 years sober. Something some of you will remember I was not most of the time. I have been a counselor in private practice after getting my masters in 91. I also teach at my school for DUI offenders making up for my years of poor behavior I found something I like still working every week. Good news for me! "

Bonnie, this is for you and my other '64 classmates-

To me, fair friend,

You can never be old.

For as you were

When first your eye I eyed,

Such seems your beauty still.

Don, I had a great time in with you in St Louis. I remember that much. But after 6 weeks of basic training, getting up at 4 AM, working my butt off all day, crawling through mud, putting up with drill instructors, etc, the weekend went by in a bit of a fuzz if you know what I mean.  I do remember arriving Friday night, drinking one beer at your house, and waking up Saturday morning.

I won the weekend leave by scoring very well on marksmanship. They told us 5 or so would get leave, and the best scores would get to go. I learned to fire with my thumb between my cheekbone and the rifle butt, and I was doing pretty well. The DI told me not to do it that way, and I told him as soon as I won the weekend in St. Loouis I was going to change.

I won, but by then my thumb nail was split open, my thumb was infected, my cheek and my eye were black, and my eye was nearly swollen shut. Fortunately there was a week or so before the leave, and at 22, we all healed quickly. But it was quite a price to pay.

Jon, August won't work for us, but there will be other times.

Rol

Gotta go with George Field about the "Siver Tongued Devil". All these past 51 years I thought I had something in my eye and now I find out all along it was Boom Boom. No wonder it wasn't a bother!! Hope all are enjoying the summer even with the rain in the Northeast. I spent a few days with old HS friends Mike Goodrich and Marty Dusel. It was REALLY great to get back together and spend those couple of days away from the public where we re-connected. Good food, good times, great friends sitting around a campfire reminiscing!! And there is more to go next year.

Bulletin from California:

Send water! While you're all getting soaked, we're enjoying warm, balmy, sunny weather, day after day after day. If you want to be like a Californian (who doesn't?), here's what you can do:

If it's yellow, let it mellow.

If it's brown, flush it down.

Oh, and don't forget to let your lawn die, or else the lawn police will be making a call (think I'm kidding?). It's ironic that most of us are here for the weather, and it's the weather that's killing us.

.............................................................

BTW, stop talking about dead things, unless it's the Grateful Dead, which by the way, is singing their last concert this weekend in SF (less Jerry Garcia, of course, because he's dead).

Joking aside, I think it's healthy to talk about death as a part of life. As we live, so will we die, but along the way it can be fun to poke death in the eye a few times. We all seem to be assuming that death is not as enticing as life, but I have no proof to that fact, so I'm counting on death bringing me the answers I couldn't obtain in life. But until then, I'll keep poking at (dead as a doornail, bite the dust, counting worms, kick the bucket, push up daisies, or take a trip to Davy Jones's locker) until I buy the farm.

Anyway, apologies to those I should have written, but will soon (it's been a busy, crazy year). Speaking of year, it's been "one" since our reunion, and we seem, as a group, to be growing stronger. Go 64's!

Yikes. September 26th to celebrate the anniversary of the school. Did school actually begin in late September back in 1940? I wonder if Ray Frasier had anything to do with that--hee hee.

Bob ( and others),

I kid a lot about Ray Frasier (Dilly Dally, Mr. Magoo, etc.), but because of my dad's relationship with him he was always welcome in our home. I had much respect for the man while still kidding him. He was an excellent administrator unlike his cronies who were worthless. Al Dyer, Mike Stark, and especially Vivian Green were way over their heads in trying to handle KWHS duties.

I was unaware Ray's daughter lived near you, as did I. My family spent nearly 30 years in Charlotte in the South Park area. Small world.

Classmates, its been just over a year since the Class of '64 gathered for several wonderful days, and it still seems like yesterday to me.... Many of you all know I started a salsa company a while back and sampled a few of the products I was able to bring up there. A grocery friend of mine told me this salsa need to be up there in the frozen north and suggested I contact Wegman's to see about that possibility. I researched Wegman's web site to see about contacting someone, but I really hate cold calls, so haven't done anything yet. I value everyone's opinion...sooooooo, I'd like to know what you all think. Should Stagecoach Salsa (which has won 42 national and international awards) attempt to get on the store shelves of the top grocery chain in New York??? Let me know what you think.

I'd love to see it on the shelves here in my largely Hispanic neighborhood in Jackson Heights, NY.  We have FoodTown, Key Food and C-Town supermarkets. Please try those too. Zip code is 11372. There would be a HUGE market here. And contact local distributors who deliver to these supermarkets.

Hi Larry,

I think you should go for it.  Being that it is the creation of a former WNYer, they would probably give it much consideration.

Also try Whole Foods.  They are building a new store in the old Nirthtown Plaza.
