Susan Caddy (O'Brien)

Sue O’Brien, 71

 Jan 22, 2017, 11:00 PM

Sue Caddy O’Brien peacefully passed away January 20, 2017 surrounded by her loved ones. The third of four children to Matthew and Katherine Caddy, Sue was born September 12, 1945 in Butte, Montana. She was raised in East Butte, attended Harrison Grade School and was a Butte High School graduate. Sue started her career with the AT&T phone company and remained a dedicated employee for thirty plus years rising through the ranks starting as an operator, then an engineer, and was later called back as a contract employee after retiring. Sue thoroughly enjoyed working and continued after the phone company to help out at Sharp Expressions and Munchkins. Through her love of children, she then took on the task of being a substitute school bus driver. She found great pleasure in telling everyone the trials and tribulations of her day on the bus. Sue learned her strong work ethic from her mom and she subsequently passed that onto her daughter Heather.

Sue married Jay O’Brien November 16, 1968. Jay, his Susie Q, and beloved daughter Heather spent years together enjoying numerous trips, entertaining with family and friends, and taking turns hosting dinners with Rock and Jer. Later in life, they would enjoy their daily rides to check out the pulse of the city. Whatever they did, Sue and Jay did it together and she was always ready to G.O.. She looked forward to the annual Labor Day golf tournament that Jay would play in, just so she could put on her best dress and enjoy the night out with her husband. She also spent countless hours at the “girls table” at the Met so she could catch up with her many cherished friends. Sue had many interests including playing golf, exercising, macrame, stain glass, and creating unique ceramics. She had a special knack for decorating her home and loved to have family and friends over to enjoy a meal at her beautiful table. Sue was an excellent cook and acknowledged the fact the many have claimed to have the “Best Pasty”, but Sue’s truly were the best of the best.

Sue’s greatest treasure was her daughter Heather and later the addition of her precious grand daughters Regan and Prestynn. Sue and Heather shared many of the same interests life has to offer and had a valued relationship that would make anyone envious. She looked forward to every Tuesday as that was the special day of the week she got her alone time with her granddaughters and their friends, driving them to games and practices or whatever other adventure they decided to go on and would love to make them their cheese crisps and a bottle of coke that only she knew how to prepare just right. Heather would join them later in the day for a meal together.

Whether you knew her by Sue, Suey, Susie Q, Cookie, or Q, you knew her favorite nickname was Gonka because that name was coined by her granddaughters. The name was contagious as all of Regan and Prestynn’s friends knew her well and only knew her as Gonka.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Mathew and Katherine Caddy, and her best friend and and sister in law Jeri Rakich.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years Jay, who never left her side, her daughter Heather (Chad Harrington) granddaughters Regan and Prestynn Weldon, Sister Ann (Norm) Bone, brother Tom (Jeanne) Caddy, brother Joe (Nancy) Caddy, brother in laws Millian Rakich, Jim O’Brien, sister in laws Sue (Monty) Sampson, Julie (Bob) Thullen, along with numerous nieces and nephews

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the ICU nursing staff at St. James Healthcare, especially Terri Hunt who was so kind and caring at a very difficult time.

Friends are asked to join the family on Wednesday after 9:00 am in St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am.

Memorials can be made to Albert’s Angel Fund at 669 Centennial Ave Butte Montana, Dementia Society of America, or the Believe Sorini Strong Foundation PO Box 3417 Butte Montana 59701
