Joseph Donald Campbell, "Papa Joe" was born September 15, 1946 to Joseph and Marie Campbell in Butte, Montana. He graduated from Butte High School and went on to get a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and World History and his Masters in Elementary Education all at Western Montana College in Dillon. He achieved his Administration Certificate later at The University of Montana in Missoula. He married the love of his life and soul mate, Sarah Coulombe on October 21, 1965 at Gold Hill Lutheran Church. During their 44 years of marriage they raised their most important contributions to the world, their sons, Joseph Donald Campbell III and Mark William Campbell. Papa Joe was immensely proud of them and loved every moment he spent with them hunting, fishing, ATVing, motorcycling or simply "pestering" them on the phone. After 15 years of teaching, Papa Joe followed his sons into law enforcement and proudly became a Portland Police Officer. As a police officer he served with compassion, helping those who couldn't help themselves. Officer Campbell loved being a police officer and often said he truly found his calling.Papa Joe also loved the outdoors - whether it was flying his kite on the beach with his granddaughter, camping at Birch Creek, riding a Harley during a poker run, or hunting with the guys in Colorado. Papa Joe cherished every moment he shared with his friends and family.Papa Joe is survived by his wife Sarah; sons, Joseph and Mark; grandchildren, Ashley Rose and Cash Donnie; and daughters-in-law Laura and Katrina. You can say Papa Joe was a good family man, but the definition of family to him was wide reaching and included everyone who touched his heart or he touched through his love and compassion. As Sarah says, he was a gentle giant, loved by all who knew him.Memorial contributions can be made in honor of Joseph Campbell to the Humane Society, the Rocky Moutain Elk Foundation or the NRA.
