Paul Henry Mehring died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Jean, on Tuesday, March 15, 2011, after a courageous battle with cancer. He has gone to heaven to join his father, Roy, mother, Esmarelda, brother, Manuel and his beloved son, Jon Paul. He was our rock and will be missed so much.

He was born in Butte, Jan. 3, 1945, and attended St. Patrick’s School, Butte Central and graduated from Butte High School in 1964. Paul worked as an operator at Stauffer Chemical for more than 30 years, then with the Montana Department of Highways for five years. Paul worked hard, played hard and loved hard. He especially loved his daughter, Monique, and his stepchildren, Tammy, Donna, Shelly, Edward and Kim; his 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. He lived for hunting, fishing and dancing, but his real joy in life was his wife and watching his grandchildren grow up. Their Papa will be very missed.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Elizabeth Mehring; daughter, Monique of New Windsor, Md.; stepchildren, Tammy and Dennis Sheilds of Clark Fork, Idaho, Donna and John Bolinski of Hayden, Idaho, Shelley and Dan Sonnabend of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., Edward and Sherri Morrow and Kim and Leland Nagy, all of Post Falls, Idaho. His grandchildren include Lorin and Jake Pirrung, Summer O’Connell and Chase Walls, Chelsea Ley, Carrie and Devon Park, Josh, Tristan and Trinity Morrow, Robbie Jeramie and Sadie Sonnabend, Autumn and McCall Nagy. Also surviving are his brothers and sister-in-law, Leon and Vera Mehring of Iowa, LeRoy Mehring of Butte; sisters and brother-in-law, Jeannine Gendreau of Butte and Elaine and Ralph Baum Smalts of Arizona.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home with the Rev. Mr. Dan McGrath officiating.
