I first met Nancy at the Bishop's School of Dance on Park Street.  We became fast friends though we didn't dance together until we were teens, when we became a part of the jazz group (6 dancers) that danced at several of the service organizations around town.  We became verywell known  as "The 6 Butte..ies."  One summer we were asked by some Summer Stock professionals to try out for their summer variety show; a summer playhouse that ran from June to August.  We were selected, and what a summer it was!  We really loved meeting some professional dancers and the smell of grease paint, fake eyelashes, and the applause of the audience.  The Bishop's were so proud of us; we were also so proud.

Our friendship carried over into school activites and classes.  I remember being on the phone for hours doing French homework with her.  Nancy was very bright and did well in all of her classes. Also, she participated in the sleepovers with Sue Martinsen and others, Pep rallys, and just hanging out uptown.

I will always remember her bright red hair that was so long that she always wore it up on her head.  I will always remember the struggles we had getting dressed after showers following gym class.  Though we tried to avoid taking them, there were times when the teacher stood and watched us get wet.  Then came the task of trying to get our girdles on over wet legs.......what a struggle for those who never had the experience.  It was kind of a dance of its own.  Many a time we were late to Mr. Ogle's French class.  We had some really fun times.

I lost contact with her when we left for college, and I was so sorry to learn of her passing.  Wish she were here to join us; what reminiscencing we could have.    Rest in Peace, dear Nancy.  Carol Merrett Gilbert
