Bernard Campbell - Class Of 1941

Bernard Malcom Campbell, 91, of Eastland, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Abilene.  Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Roberts officiating.  Burial followed at the Eastland City Cemetery. 

Bernard was born on October 13, 1919 in Carbon, Texas to Dora and Clyde Campbell.  He was a Pearl Harbor Survivor and after WWII he worked for Phelps Dodge Corp in Morenci, Arizona.  After returning to Texas he worked for Commanche Co. Electric Coop and for 34 years was a rural mail carrier for the postal service.  He grew up in Carbon and had lived in Eastland for 34 years.  On December 23, 1945, he married Murl Simmons and they enjoyed 54 years together.  They had one daughter, Bernadine Campbell Donovan.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Eastland.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Murl Campbell; sister, Bonnie Campbell Pierce; nephew, Clinton Pierce; and niece, Glenna Pierce Warren.

Survivors are his daughter and son-in-law, Bernadine and Richard L. Donovan of Herndon, VA; grandson and wife, Terry & Jennifer Donovan or Cypress, TX; grandson and wife, Kevin and Sarah Donovah of Reston, VA; granddaughter and husband, Dana and Daniel Steinberg of Chantilly, VA; great grandchildren, Amanda & Kyle Donovan, Liam Donovan, Paige, Jordan and Avery Steinbert; sister, Arleta Shirey of Eastland; niece and husband, Brenda & Don Lane of Cisco; and special friend, Charlene Shaller of Abilene.
