Comments:

Preston and I were married in 1946. In 1948, our son, Thomas, was born. Shortly thereafter we moved to Hobbs, NM and then across the state line into Denver City, TX. Preston was employed with in the oil fields. I went to work for Plains County State and County Tax Office. After a few years, we moved to Abilene, TX and I continued doing the same work. We lived in Abilene until Thomas finished high School. We moved to Ft. Worth and I continued to work in County Tax offices. After 22 years in tax offices here; I retired in 1990 with accumulated 35 yeafrs of service.

I have done volunteer work in my church, a Best Friends program in a rest home and The Women's Haven project.

Preston passed away in 1980. I worked extra to take up times that would have otherwise been very lonely. During that time, I established a Tax and Title service for car dealers as a side job in my home. The business grew to 22 customers. After several years, I became tired of that and went to work for J. C. Penny Co. I worked there for 9 or 10 years before finally retiring. My work has always been a great joy to me. I have loved working with the interesting and wonderful friends I have met along the way!

On November 18, 1996, Thomas was killed in an automobile accident. The sadness of that day still lingers now. He was the joy of my life. I have his children, Melissa and Derek, to fill my days now with love and joy. They are there for me always. And, I have Taylor, my 15-month-old great-grandson,to keep my days filled with the energy and excitement of youth!!

In August 2004, I sold my home and moved to Heritage House, a beautiful Senior Residence in Burleson, TX. It was quite an adjustment for me, but has proved to be one of the best moves of my life. The Lord has been good!

School Story:

66 YEARS -- I CAN'T BELIEVE IT! It seems only a few years ago, in my subconscious mind, that we were together having fun. I think about the challenges that were before us, and they were easier to meet because of the influences in our homes, school and community. I remember Miss Ransom, Miss Townsend, and Mr. Wood and how much they contributed to our first group education. Do you remember how hard Miss Townsend was on us about our writing and spelling? (ha!) Who was it that poured ink in the fish aquarium? I was so scared for all of us! (I think it was the high school kids.)

My high school teachers were so important to me for my future. They taught me skills that would help me in my vocation, and the desire to do a job well done. I worked several jobs around local businesses until Preston came home from military service.
