Mary Lee Harlow (Jones)

Mary Lee Harlow Jones was born on November 11, 1932 in Dan Horn Community (Mitchell) in Eastland County, Texas to Charles Augustus and Corie (Snellgrove) Harlow.  The family moved to Carbon, Texas in 1937.  Mary Lee graduated from Carbon High School in 1950.  Upon graduating high school, Mary Lee began working as an operator for the Southwestern Bell Phone Company in Eastland.  She married Robert Newton Jones on August 27, 1955 at Corinth Baptist Church in Cisco, Texas.  Mary Lee continued to work for the phone company until 1957.

Mary Lee was raised in the Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized into the Southern Baptist Church in Big Spring, Texas in 1951 at the age of 18.  In 1970 Mary Lee became a member of the First Baptist Church of Lubbock, Texas where he membership remained for the rest of her life.

Mary Lee spent most of her life as a homemaker and mother.  She lived most of her life in Lubbock, Texas, having resided there for 29 years.  Upon Robert's retirement in 1992, they spent half their time at their home in Cortez, Colorado, as well as Lubbock, before finally moving to Sunrise Beach, Texas in 1996, where she lived for 17 years.  There, Mary Lee was a member of the Llano County Republican Women as well as a supporter and volunteer worker for the Sunrise Beach Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.  Mary Lee and Robert spent a great deal of time camping, fishing, deer hunting, rock hunting, and traveling.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Newton Jones,  her sisters Charley Fae Archer and Nadenia Mae Meglasson, and half brother Byron W. Harlow and half-sister Jonnie Pearl Ward.

Mary Lee is survived by son Bobby D. Jones of Austin, Texas, daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and George Spillman of San Antonio, Texas, two grandchildren, Leslie Spillman of San Antonio, Texas and Lindsey Spillman of San Antonio, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
