Mary Louise's Obituary

Mary Louise Vann Smith, entered into heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, her 89 th birthday, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Jasper, Tennessee.

She was born on February 5, 1936, in Carbon, Texas into a large family with 6 siblings. Though they did not have much money, they had a lot of love. Mary married the love of her life, Edgar Dale Smith, on November 16, 1956, after being friends at church but only dating a few weeks. Mary and Dale shared 55 years of adventures through their frequent moves with Shell Oil Company and upon Dale’s retirement, travels in their 5 th wheel. Prior to moving to Tennessee in 2023, Mary lived in Pineville, Louisiana for 46 years and was a member of Alpine First Baptist Church.

Mary had a sweet tooth and loved to bake. She also enjoyed sewing, painting, cooking, gardening, and scrapbooking.  She was preceded in death by her husband Dale Smith; infant son, Jerry Dale Smith; parents, Matthew Ambrose and Ruby Lilla Vann; siblings, Bill Vann, Richard “Snookie” Vann, Johnnie Chancelor, and Robert Vann; and grandson Jason Dale Smith.

Those family members left to love and cherish her memory are her children, Karen Smith Moses and husband David, Jason Dewayne Smith and wife Tara; grandchildren, Justin David Moses (Kate), Lauren Michelle Moses, Ryan Craig Landry (Rachel), Layni Breann Smith, and Lyla Grace Smith; four great grandchildren, Jaxson Moses, Ady, Corbin, and Harlin Landry; sisters Ruby Whitehead and Rena Berkley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 9, 2025 at New Hope Cemetery in Gaars Mill, Louisiana under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield, with Rev. Charles Hutzler officiating.
