Kenneth Herrell Powell, 71, retired Captain of Security with The Texas Department of Corrections, died Monday November 19, 2001, at an Abilene Hospital.  Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. November 21, 2001, at Murray Cemetery in Carbon.

Kenneth was born in Lamesa.  After retirement from the TDC, he worked for Birdsong Peanuts from 1990 to 2001.  He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.  He was affiliated with the Church of Christ.

Survivors:  wife, Edna Ann Powell of Gorman; sons, Bob Powell of Gorman and Mike Powell of Gorman; dauther, Kathy Hagood of Gorman; fived grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
