William Dean Allen (1946)

Bob and I were friends, growing up in Carbon.  I vividly recall we used to often have our childhood "fights.".   Bob and I would frequently board the horse-drawn flat wagon that Arcie Thurman used for delivering the daily mail from the train station to the post office.  Archie was always very nice to us.  It was so much fun for us to ride aong on the wagon.  My cousin, John (J.Z.) Phillips, married Naomi (Shorty) Ables.  John was the son of Zinn Phillips, owner of Zinn's Garage and Service Station in Carbon.  John later was owner of my father, U. T. Allen's small cafe across the street from the Peanut Mill.  What wonderful times Bob and I had.  So long ago, and yet, such a shot time, it seems, has passed.  Bob will be fondly remembered and missed by me, William D. Allen, or "George" as Archie and many of my Carbon friends used for my name.
