Vesthia (Betty) Greer

Vesthia M. (Betty) Greer, age 95, died Saturday February 9, 2013 in the Ranger Care Center in Ranger, Texas.  She was born January 4, 1918 in Carbon, Texas to W. T. (Tom) & Mae Ferrell Greer.

After graduating from Carbon High School as Valedictorian of her class, Betty attended Ranger Jr. College on a scholarship.  She then moved to San Antonio, Texas working for Swift & Co. while attending business school at night.  In 1942 she moved to Dallas, Texas and worked during the war years as a  payroll clerk for a company manufacturing war planes.  Betty then worked for many  years in the business office of Texas & Pacific Railroad and later in the office of McHale Const. Co., until she retired to live in Carbon, Texas.

Growing up in a large sports loving family, Betty became a very good athlete, active in all sports, including bowling.  Betty's main focus was, however, her family.  She remained close to all her brothers and sisters and especially enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Esther Lovier, Verda Millican, Edith Wilson, Opal Bussey and Ella Mae Greer; brothers, Hayden (Stubby), Junior,  T. G., Lee, Dale and Jim Greer. She is survived by her sister, Jo Lee of Denton, Texas, brother, Larry Greer and Sandy Stevens of Carbon, Texas.

Services were held at Bakker Funeral Home Chapel, Eastland, Texas on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Bob Rainey officiating.  Burial followed at the Murray Cemetery in Carbon. 

The family is grateful to the Ranger Care Center and to the Lighthouse Hospice for the excellent care they gave  Betty.
