Married? To who? When? How long?

Married Shelby Murray 7/4/1971

What are your memories of high school (i.e. secret crush, embarrassing moment, funniest thing you did in high school, favorite high school hang out, favorite teachers)?

My favorite memories in High School was leaving campus at lunch time , (never went to Study Hall for 1/2 hour). Shelby would pick Bonnie Debaltz and I up in his Super B and take us to our favorite hang out (Dog and Suds). We never did get caught and this was honest, clean, fun. After lunch, we would go to the park and swing on the swings until time to go back to school.

Enjoyed Sadie Hawkins Dance

Least favorite memories?

Had to eat what we prepared in Home Ec, even when we forgot to order the correct ingredients.

Where else have you lived?

Had to move to Port Arthur, Texas with Shelby's work briefly and hated it.

Still have family around ?

No

Do you still see/talk to/hang out with any classmates? Who?

Within the last year, my younger brother helped me by finding Bonnie Debaltz. I'd say she was shocked to hear from me after so long. Lots of catching up to do, hope I will see her and others whom I have not heard from in years. Raising children and living in Mississippi has kept me busy all these years, hope to re-kindle some friendships.

What did you do right after high school?

Got married, lived in Carpentersville when Shelby Jr was born, moved to Mississippi March 1973. Shelby was from Louisiana. He said marry me and we'll go places. Guess what, still in Mississippi.

What did you want to do or think you were going to do when you finished high school?

I knew I was getting married. Glad I did but wish I would have gotten some college to help me along my way.

Past jobs?

Mostly worked in the medical field.

High points of your life since high school?

The high points in my life since high school was watching my children grow into fine young men.
Also, August 14, 2001 my first grandson was born, Nicholas Scott Murray, 1st son of Scott Murray. Scott asked me the day Nicholas was born, "Mama, have you ever seen anything like this in all your life?" I responded "Yes, the day you were born. Sadly Nicholas would only know his daddy for 10 weeks.

Low point of your life since high school?

The lowest point in my life and Shelby's was the passing of my middle son, Scott at age 28. He was tragically taken October 28, 2001. He leaves behind my grandson Nicholas Scott, who reminds me of his daddy every day.

Any vices?

Well....I had to ask Shelby about this question. I don't smoke, don't drink, cuss a little. I am a true Pepsi drinker, which I contribute to growing up in the North. The South drink sweet tea and Coca Cola. Yuk.

Famous or interesting people you've met? (besides Peewee)

Shelby is self-employed with Snap on Tools. Racing is a big part of selling tools. Snap On sponsored Dale Earnhart racing and racing has become our favorite past time ( so is football). Shelby won a trip to Fontana California May 1998. The race as always is on T.V (and so were we.) Every time Dale pulled into the pit, we were there. What a rush. We were honorary pit crew members in Dale Earnhart's pit. We were enjoying the race and hung out with all the pit crew, was honored with the same logo shirt they wore, even signed autographs. What a nice group of guys. I was walking 3 steps behind Dale when he was walking to his garage after one of the races, but didn't bother him for an autograph ( he was working and I was just having a good time). He had a little butt. We met Merle Haggard, Clint Black ( got photo with him). Wow, what a hunk.

Comments:

Since 1971 we have been raising boys and making an honest living for our family, Living in the south has been good for us. In fact most of my family moved to the south and loved it. Much warmer. I doubt we will ever go back up North, but hope to visit soon.
