Faculty Interviews

Donald Nau

In 1967 Mr. Donald Nau was the principal of Washington Senior High School. This meant being responsible for 122 staff members and approximately 2,400 students. Washington was the largest high school in Iowa in terms of student population.

Keith Erickson

Mr. H. Keith Erickson wrestled at Washington Senior High in 1961 before attending the University of Iowa to become a teacher. He returned to Washington to teach science and math. He served as the sophomore wrestling coach and sponsored the Chess Club. Leaving education, Mr. Erickson entered the area of public health for Linn County.

Donald Hollenbeck

Mr. Donald Hollenbeck taught the Advanced Standing Program (ASP) in English during our senior year at Washington. I was forever grateful for his class. Thanks to Jim Cox and John Smith, I found his address, called him up after the reunion, and took him out to lunch. The attached video was made the same day.

William Jacobson

In 1967 Dr. William C. Jacobson taught government in one of the portable classrooms outside of Washington Senior High School. Those of us who were his students especially remember his interest in current events. He was also the faculty advisor to the Forum and Debate Club.

Harold Primrose

In 1967 Harold “Pinky” Primrose taught World Cultures and served as the Senior Class Sponsor and Washington Senior High baseball coach. His continued dedication to the sport is quickly seen from the many plaques and honors in his home. He was the second high school coach in the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches’ Association Hall of Fame. He was also the only high school coach to receive the “Lefty” Gomez Award for his outstanding contribution and distinguished service to amateur baseball. In 1995 this was presented by the American Association of Baseball Coaches’ Association.
