Being able to take an unexpected nostalgic dive into a long-forgotten part of my past is a real treat. Well done Steve!

I loved the Danceland history that you put together, Steven.   I was practically living there back in the day and remember going backstage to meet Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs, thanks to Ron Bressler, drummer for The Untouchables.    Thanks again for making the effort to do that research!

I remember playing there several times with the Trade Winds. Also seeing Jerry Lee Lewis, Gary Lewis and the Playboys and many other bands that you have displayed posters for. I also remember bowling at Tropic Lanes below Danceland. Many fond memories of Danceland.

Sorry that I didn't respond sooner to Guy Mueller's request to see one of my poems. It slipped my mind (as so many things do these days). So for what it's worth, here's a prior effort:

Washing Feet

Being thorough, I remove a holey sock,

to view a diabetic man’s filthy feet.

I use the time to complete our talk

of what drove him to live on the street

as I wonder how any of this can help.

While he tells me more of his medical past,

I run warm water into a stainless bowl.

I immerse both his feet, and begin to ask

myself what good it does for this poor soul

to allow himself to undergo this ablution.

Silently I sluice the water between his toes

and soap the crusty callous at his heel.

I marvel at his arch, and notice how closely

it fits my palm.  I know he can feel

this proximity too.  He shuts his eyes.

Months of useless layers peel away,

revealing layers useless weeks ago.

Removing the tough brown hide of yesterday

yields clean pink skin, but we both know

this ritual will be useless days from now.

Still, this moment may withstand time’s test,

teaching us each lessons unknown before.

I learn the medicine of selflessness.

He learns what medicine is really for—

the hope that basin, soap, and touch can bear.

Hello Chuck,

I saw your email on the Washington HS site where you offered to contact a classmate.

I was a neighbor of the Hubbards, 2 houses away on 4th Ave.  I learned that Tom had died when I found his mother's obituary today.  I am wondering if you know his sister, Ann.  If you, or anyone you know, could give my email to her, I would really appreciate it.  Ann and I were friends growing up and our parents and my sister, Barbara were friends, but I Iost track of Ann after they moved from CR.

I am not on facebook so the best way for her to contact me is email.

Thank you!

Susan Danne

If anyone has any information that can help Susan, please contact her using the above email address.

We want to help our classmates and others to reconnect with people from the past. We do it with our classmantes very discreetly.

At our now "advanced age", but just as always, we never know what day will be our last. All we know is we have fewer days ahead of us than behind us. Since my birthday won't be until August, I'll either be here on earth or in Heaven. Count your blessings every day for all that God has blessed you with over those 75 years, including those loved ones in your life who have gone before you. And to think at one time in my life I thought I would never live to see 21 !! God be with you all until we meet again.

We are renovating a home in NC to spend summers there and plan a gathering of friends in July.  Glad to be on the right side of the dirt and still playing golf.

Hi from Cedar Rapids and a new 75 year old. I threw a party for myself.  Why not?

As a revival of the concept of getting together occasionally here in Cedar Rapids , I would organize a Friday lunch gathering at Lion Bridge Brewing Company in Czech Village. Let me know if you are interested and send me your email. If we have interest, I'll schedule it.

75th Birthday - Wow! Lost my wife of 49+ years last October, so going by myself on one of our bucket list trips by going to Paris (never been) on May 23rd for a few days & then beginning river cruise on May 26th (my birthday) on the Seine to go see northern France & Normandy.

Cris - Thanks so much. As my son said at her service, "she's not lost if you know where she is", and we certainly do. Looking forward to my trip & anxious to see what travelling solo is like. Thanks again!

I just learned from Dick Garberson that the former Buchanan School building may be torn down to make room for apartments. The building became Ambroz Recreation Center when it was purchased by the city in 1975. The building was closed in 2016 when the recreation center moved to a new building. Numerous attempts have been made to sell and repurpose the building. The one that may succeed is described in this article/newscast:

Council Approves Developer for Ambroz Site

Hi all.  As we get these posts I reflect on the fact while we were a large graduating class, I recall the individal relationships we had along the way.  Seems that again while large, we all impacted each other in some way during the times we attended Washingon Sr. High School.  I think that says something about the times and also the fabric of the Class of 1967.  Thank you all for being a part of my life and the impact you had on it.  I appreciate each and everyone that helped me along the way to be the person that I am today.
