Thomas “Tom” Clifford Yanecek, 61, of Cedar Rapids, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center on Oct. 29, 2010. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971, serving in Vietnam as a K9 handler, 1969-1970. On March 28, 1973, he married Jan Wayland.
He was survived by his wife Jan, stepsons, Brian Steadman (Jennifer) of Cedar Rapids and Aaron Steadman of Maryville, Tenn. And three granddaughters.

Tom and I had the privilege of attending Polk School. He was big-hearted and kind, a wonderful individual.

I went to school with Tom from grade school on, started in Polk Elementary School. Used to play softball with Tom and his brother John after school. Tom was a really good guy and it was impossible not to like him.Terry Lee
