Obituary

Nancy L. (Freeman) Knefley of Wellton, Arizona passed away February 5th, 2023. She was 73. Nancy was born on October 27, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa, the second child of Lynn R. Freeman and Doris L. (Murphy) Freeman. Nancy graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1967.

Nancy and Carroll Hauge were united in marriage on December 17, 1969. In 1972 Carroll passed away after a brief and courageous battle with illness.

On February 12th, 1982, Nancy married Michael Knefley and they had 2 children, joining Michael’s 3 children from his previous marriage. Residing in Iowa for most of their marriage, Nancy and Michael retired to their final home in Arizona in 2006 claiming they were tired of wearing jeans and preferred to go somewhere that was over 100 degrees on any given day in the summer.

Nancy was known for her witty humor, her laugh, unconditional love for her family and those close to her, and her love for animals. Nancy had many great friends throughout her life, but was closest to her younger sister, Mary Freeman. Nothing made her happier than to have her family together, playing “Farkle” or having a beverage outside in the beautiful weather. Nancy enjoyed reading, watching stand-up comedy, and making frequent trips to the casino where she never became the millionaire she hoped she would but would say, “at least I had fun.”

Nancy is survived by her children Katy Knefley and Amanda Knefley and 3 step-children, Nancy (Mitchell) Robson, Daniel (Laura Fons) Knefley, David (Christine) Knefley, many grandchildren and extended family friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Michael, parents, and sisters.

In accordance with her wishes, she was cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held later in both Iowa and Arizona. If Nancy were here she would say, “Don’t forget to go outside and do something fun, pet all the dogs and cats that you can, laugh every chance you can and don’t sweat the small stuff.”

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Cedar Rapids, Iowa www.cvhumane.org/memorial-donations.
