Dan was a good guy. I'll never forget getting completely flattened by him in 9th grade football practice. Gave me another reason to join the band at WHS.

This is such sad and unexpected news. Dan knew how to seize the day. His energy and enthusiasm will be missed.

I did not know Dan in high school but knew who he was. Think he may have said Hi while passing in the halls to me.
It's so sad to loose another class mates. I guess when I think back, I didn't give it much thought about how long each one of us in over 700 in our class would live. But sure wanted us to make it to a ripe old age with greart life experiences along the way that we could share as the years went by. We have a great class and have lost great ones. May they all rest in peace and be fondly remembered by freinds and at our reunions.

I am so heartbroken that Dan is gone. I always perceived him as a strong, sturdy guy with a heart of gold. It was obvious that he really loved Anita, his wife. They were a team. I will miss both Dan and Anita at the next reunion. He will be missed. Yasmine Marca

This news is such a shock. I’m sure anyone who ever met Dan would agree he was a great guy. He was outgoing, good humored and always genuinely interested in everyone he met. Whenever I would run into him in Iowa City, it was like time stood still and we were back in high school. The world is a better place because he was here. Your spirit lives on Dan.

Truly a great person - and a real loss. Danny at Franklin and Wash, at our reunions and by-chance connections in Iowa City are memories that will be close to my heart. A warm embrace to all of you who also feel the loss.

A very good friend from the early years. A man that didn't know his own STRENGTH ! Enjoyed life his way. Will always be in my memories. Rest in peace. Heaven awaits you !Donna Thorpe (Cilley)
Danny as I knew him back in high school was a good friend and I looked forward to seeing him every year at the reunion with his new adult name, Dan. He always knew what was going on with everyone and seemed to enjoy his old high school friends and keeping in touch. He was lots of fun in school and I remember being so impressed with him getting his PhD as he was a fun and outgoing guy and I did not realize his cerebral side until later years. I will miss him.
