Chip and I have been friends since 4th grade at Hiawatha Elementary School. We were in the Boy Scouts together and went on several camp-outs. We hung out together at all the reunions. It's so hard for me to accept he is gone, we were life long friends. So sad.
Chip, Cliff Batchelder and I all started work together at the Me-Too grocery store in Hiawatha (now the Hy Vee Drug store. We hung out together alot. he had a cool '56 chevy I remember that. I lost track of him after I went into the navy. R.I. P. my friend.
I also grew up with Chip in Hiawatha. We used to play football in the Hiawatha Park when we were 10-12 years old. He always had a good disposition through all the times I talked to him. In my responsibilities with the reunion committee, I have the privilege of contacting most of our classmates and when I contacted Chip we always talked way too long.
I'm still in shock to hear of Chip's passing. We became good friends at Washington and I got to know the family as his mom was my German teacher at McKinley. We stayed good friends at the U of Iowa and have stayed in touch over the years, having visited Chip and Judy every few years. I have many stories that I could tell about Chip (but probably shouldn't) and I'm sure most of his friends do also. This is really sad. - Fred V.

Charles was a great friend. From 7th grade at Franklin to 12th grade at Washington we shared home room, he will be remembered.
