Kenneth W. Flickinger, 74, of Walford, passed away at his home Thursday, June 29, 2023. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John XXIII Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Richmond Dzekoe. Burial with military services will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 4, at Papich-Kuba Funeral Home East, 1228 Second St. SE, Cedar Rapids. There will not be any visitation at the church.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary; two children, Curtis (Michaela) Flickinger of Walford and Rebecca (Joshua) Carson of Greenwood, Ind.; six grandchildren, Allie, Leah, Sara, Breanna, Jacob and Joseph; three brothers, Gary (Barbara), Doug (Julie) and Craig (Janet) Flickinger; sister, Kathy (Darrell) Miller; and his faithful companion, Gidget.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Kenneth was born April 11, 1949, in Iowa City, the son of Harley and Mildred (Gosnell) Flickinger. He married Mary K. Panek on March 13, 1971, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Kenneth was employed at LeFebure from 1974 to 1992 and then worked at Amana Refrigeration from 2002 until his retirement in 2012.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving four years of active duty and 20 years in the Naval Reserves.

Kenneth was a member of St. John XXIII Catholic Church.

Military graveside services will be conducted by Fairfax American Legion Pekomy Post 572.

So Sorry to hear of the loss of our Dear classmate Ken Flickenger. I introduced Ken to his wife, a 1967 graduate of Regis H.S. Ken was a character, cutting up...making us laugh at him in class. Our deapest Sympathy goes out to Mary & Ken's family.
