Obituary of George C. Conoly

ELGIN – Funeral service for George Calvin Conoly, 72, will be held Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at Blaney Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 4:00-6:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Gideons International or blood donation to the American Red Cross.

Mr. Conoly passed away on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Palmetto Health Richland. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, he was the son of the late James Calvin Conoly and Frances Moffett Conoly. He served in the United States Army and received his undergraduate degree from Charleston Southern University and his Master’s Degree from the University of South Carolina. He served on the board of visitors at Charleston Southern University.

Mr. Conoly retired from the State of South Carolina where he was employed by the Insurance Reserve Fund and was a real estate agent in Kershaw County and Columbia Northeast. He was a member of Blaney Baptist Church and an active and devoted member of Gideons International. He was a volunteer and donor with the American Red Cross. He enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing, kayaking and scuba diving.

Surviving are his wife, Iris Poston Conoly; children, Kelly Rister (Brian), Brian Fanning (Kim), and Grant Fanning (Julie); brother, Frank Conoly (Patsy) of North Augusta; sisters, Margaret Moore (Stan), Linda Goldstein (Lee), Mary Helen Ticknor (Craig), and Louise Cox (Sonny), all of Greenwood; and grandchildren, Jonathan Fanning, Randall Fanning, Easton Rister and Austin Rister.
