April 22 Medal of Honor Instalation Ceremony at Moffett Field

Event Details

Our distinguished cousin, retired U.S. Marine Corps Colonel William A. Moffett III, affectionately known as "Uncle Bill," reports the following important matter that requires your prompt attention:

On Sunday, April 22, 2018, at the Moffett Field Historical Society Museum at Moffett Field in Santa Clara County California, there will be a special ceremony to formally install a newly-minted copy of the Congressional Medal of Honor that was awarded to William Adger Moffett in April 1914. The whereabouts of the originally-awarded Medal of Honor are not known.

The ceremony will be officiated by Rear Admiral James P. Schear (Ret.), a distinguished naval aviator and a Command Group Senior Advisor who has served at the highest levels of the aviation security community for over thirty years.

Herb Parsons, President of the Museum, flew airplanes in the Navy for 30 years, including P-3 Orion surveillance aircraft when he was stationed at Moffett Field. Mr. Parsons has toiled selflessly for many months to arrange this very special event. He is owed a great debt of gratitude by all who love freedom.

Perhaps the best way to show appreciation of Mr. Parsons' efforts would be to attend the ceremony and thank him in person.

Friends and members of the Moffett Clan are cordially invited to attend. Please plan now to be in Santa Clara on April 22. If there is enough interest, we will try to make a weekend of this, by making arrangements for a host hotel where we Moffetts could begin arriving on Friday, April 20, 2018, and spend the weekend.

More details to follow shortly or contact Uncle Bill for more details (moffettwm@aol.com).

Yours, aye yours indeed,

-Kent Maynard, Jr. (son of Janet Moffett Moore - "Janita")
