Katheryn Jean Wesner Maskell died January 14, 2022 at the age of 71. She was born in Illinois on October 10, 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruth Wesner and brother Gary Wesner.

Kathy is survived by her sons Michael Maskell and Jonathan Maskell, daughter-in-law Christie Sheats, as well as her siblings and their spouses: Ron and Debora Wesner, Sherry and Larry Lawson, Laura and Gary Shiflett. She also leaves behind a granddaughter, Skylar, and seven nephews and nieces: Elizabeth, Craig, Scott, Zachary, Reinald, Christine, and Matthew.

Kathy grew up in Crozet and spent many hours at Crozet's library and pool. She received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from the University of Virginia. Kathy spent most of her life in Virginia Beach where she worked for 30 years as a teacher serving hearing impaired children of all grades in the Virginia Beach City Public School System. Her two sons were the focus of her life and they brought her great joy. For many years, she and the boys would make their way to Myrtle Beach for the annual family reunion and to Crozet to visit her parents. After retiring, she enjoyed gardening, reading, dining out with friends, and watching the waves.

Kathy was a thoughtful and introspective individual, a best friend to many and a kind and good-hearted soul. She had a flare for decorating and helping others with designing spaces in their homes. She loved to travel and visited several countries in Europe. She hiked Mount Etna, climbed on Hadrian's wall, watched the sunset on Santorini, and walked the streets of Europe's major cities in search of the best tchotchkes. 

Along the way, she savored the views and food with her sisters and the Shiflett family. For the last five years, she loved to come to the beach on 87th street and always had to have her waffles Sunday morning before heading back home. Her passing leaves a hole in the hearts of everyone whose lives she touched.
