Ronald “Ronnie” Campbell, 65, of Chattanooga, died on Friday, July 17, 2015, after a long battle with congestive heart failure.
He was a graduate of City High School, a beloved husband, father and brother, a passionate football fan and devoted Dynamo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Garnett W. Campbell; his first wife, Becky Case Campbell, and his brother, Bryan Campbell.
Survivors are his wife, Diana Campbell; children, Lisa (Steve) Boyd, Jerry (Kathryn) Campbell, Natalie Campbell Phillips and Casey (Chris) Campbell; grandchildren, Campbell Norton and Jacob and Benjamin Boyd; mother, Alice Louise Campbell; brothers, Gary (Jimmy), Wayne (Diane) and David Campbell; sister-in-law Mrs. Bryan (Christy) Campbell; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation is on Sunday, July 19, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be a private graveside service, officiated by Richard Floyd, a longtime family friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association. The family would like to give thanks for the extraordinary efforts of Dr. David Wendt and Dr. Richard Morrison.
Arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home, Ashland Terrace.

Greatly saddened by the passing of Mr CHS. I have only good and fond memories of the big guy who picked me up by the shoulders off the mat in the armory, immediately after he put me there in a moment ill-fated passion. Then, last I saw him, when he came to Stuart Heights Baptist Traditions Service just to see me because he heard I was leading the music. What an honor! We have lost a great friend of Chattanooga High School. Ronnie Campbell, Mr. CHS, 1968, was a true gentleman. Always smiling and very kind to all students, popular and not so popular. A rare trait back in 1968! Rest in Peace Ronnie. You will be greatly missed.

Ronnie was a giant among men and not due to his physical size but to his heart. He was a man who deserved and earned the respect of all who knew him. He will be sorely missed and I look forward to seeing him again. May God bless the family he left behind.

I knew Ronnie from Central Elamentary school, Northside Jr. High as well as City High. He was alway the same kind, smilling person you see in the pictures posted. I had received some messages from him on this web site on our birthdays and he was kind and witty with everyone of them. My sympathys to his wife and family and to all who knew him.

Ronnie Campbell was my Brother by another Mother. I met Ronnie as a Soph at City High School where we were both new guys trying to play football under Don Shockley at City High School. I was from Signal Mtn and he was from North-side, but we quickly became Brothers. HI -Y - Football - double dating - working out - both of us Brother Linebackers and he was always the best - a natural - truly a Jock from the jump! Ronnie - I love you Brother. It has been years - I guess since Becky's death when we last saw each other! I have never forgotten you - I have never forgotten the times we shared - how we grew up and learned. How we grew up and dreamed. How we grew up and found a foundation of a love for each other - a love for Christ - a love for life!! I will miss you Brother, but I will see you again!! You will be 62 and I will be 33. You will block - I will run - You will tackle and I will assist! We will be Captains - We will be "Head Hunters" -- we Will - yes, we will. I cried when I heard about Ronnie's passing...Ronnie was bigger than life! He ALWAYS had a smile on his face and he was ALWAYS kind to everyone. He was the symbol of CHS and he will truly be missed! My condolences to Ronnie's family. Ann Klein Reich
Buddy Burke (1968)
I didn't know Ron until I got to City, but we soon became friends in homeroom. We were not close friends in high school, but friends just the same. It was after City and a few years past that Parker, Ron and I began to run around a bit. We had some real tales to tell, or not to tell, but they were great and we developed a real bond. We later even became brothers-in-law for a few years and since we were married to sisters for a while, we saw each other on a regular basis. After our marriages ended, we still remained in touch for a few years and then the times got further and further apart. We would catch up every once in a while and reminisce about "old" times and laugh at all the fun and trouble we nearly caused.
Ron, for a short time, was a brother to me, and I will always fondly remember him and smile when I think back to our time spent together. I will truly miss him

I remember feeling like such a big deal when Ronnie would smile, wink when he passed me in the hallway. He gave everyone the same joyous greetings and often times, he added his unique phrase , "beaucoup, baby'". I don't know why, but I became the object of derision by several Signal Mtn. boys and I was afraid and embarrassed by their cruelty. Ronnies sweet greetings made it possible to get through the day.
